Racial Armor Information (IRC)

Tiy was kind enough to taunt us with a few more tidbits of information, this time regarding the abilities of racial armor.

Well, at least the possible abilities.

He also tells us the name of the aquatic race, Hylotl.

 

That was also revealed in the recent livestream Tiy did. At around the 25 minute mark he goes into the character creation menu.

not excited about this at all...why? because:

"its the armor that gives you these abilities, not the race itself".

So races are still the same

This makes me want to be aquati- sorry, HYLOTL even more.
Breathing underwater = unhindered water bases.

 

Yes, I may want some Hylotl armor. Although Floran armor is awesome, since it will probably convert much many other things into health and energy or something like that

Like if you have a bunch of dirt/water in your inventory you gain a little bit of health and some energy. Just an idea though.

 

This blew my mind. I've been hoping for a difference between races other than purely visual effects. Tiy, you are a genius and shall me honored by every future generation.

 

now i'm kinda glad they went with armor abilities instead of racial ones. that way, i can have a Hylotl that can glide, or jump higher!

 

Perfect.

The races themselves have no defining abilities, but their armors do. The best of both worlds.

Thus, I can be a robot, and wear Avian armour so I can fly, but aesthetically still be a robot, with maybe Human armor in my vanity slots. Awesome.

Not that I'm saying I would do that. Just theorizing.

 

Seems to me that Robot and human armor are the most practical.

 

I wonder if there are going to be any sort of combat bonuses involved or if they're just going to restrict them to utility bonuses.

 

Robot armor all the way!
I am very impatient with mining and every speed boost helps.
Or human armor, so I can hold more loot.

 

Which is good
It means you can pick the race you want to pick, rather than the race with the abilities you want

 

In my opinion, my least favorite bonus is the robot one. It's kinda random....
I dont see how it could help, but im thinking in terraria terms, and maybe not big enough. Maybe its x2 faster digging, who knows?

Those racial armor abilities sound spectacular, all of those abilities are very useful in their particular ways. The Floran one is a bit situational though, since you have sunlight only above ground and during the day. It could be done so it uses artificial light sources as well (just like plants can grow with artificial light), maybe with a lessened effect. And I disagree with Tiy: the human armor extra carrying capability isn't dull, it's extremely useful.

Slightly out of topic... so Robots isn't their definitive name, hmm... gives me hope for a cool and original name.

I like how Florans use... PHOTSYNTHESIS! However, I don't see how Apex armor would help at all, since you'd also have the option to fly...
