    Cheezemaniac Pangalactic Porcupine

    This looks like a promising mod, however the items are way too overpowered as they are now. Infinite Energy is no go for example.
    Edit: Balance seems to have been improved.

    Thank you very much. The cooldown period before your energy is able to regenerate still exists while the items are equipped, so its not too powerful. I can understand that a lot of people may view these as overpowered, and I respect that. The reason why I have the energy regeneration high (as well as tons of extra energy provided), is simply because I love spamming magic and techs (haha).

    As of v0.5.3, the guide is outdated. Due to time constraints, I won't be updating the guide anymore. I greatly apologize for any inconvenience this may to be of anyone. Please note that because the guide is indeed outdated, the current values are quite different from previous versions. The good news is that the legend still holds true for some files, and you'll still be able to edit the files to how you want them (going based on the old file names). The transparent particle files listed in the guide still affect version 0.5.3 and up correctly (excluding non animated emblems and a new rage buff effect [listed on the main mod page]), so if you prefer to still use these files, you're more than welcome to.

    MOD CUSTOMIZATION
    -------------------------------------------------

    While this modification in itself is not complicated in the least, if you're new to editing files or modding, implementing the smallest change can be a little intimidating. Thus, I am going to provide a simple editing tutorial for this mod if you like it, but don't necessarily like some of the features. You can edit any file (excluding images) with notepad or wordpad, but I personally prefer Notepad++, due to it being really intuitive.

    I probably won't provide support if you break something, I apologize. If you're new to editing, it may be a good idea to have backups of the mod on hand, in case something goes wrong.

    MOD CUSTOMIZATION EXAMPLES
    -------------------------------------------------

    Now, you may be wondering how to edit the files to your personal satisfaction. Below, I'll include some examples of how to edit the mod, but there are so many more ways you could edit the files (please keep in mind that these examples are just that, examples). There's a reason as to why I posted a legend, you're going to need them for reference if you want to customize the files to your own liking.

    Replacing Buff Effects:

    Let's say that you enjoy what the current buffs have to offer, but you want something more powerful on the lower tiered emblems. What if you want the Writers' buff effects on Cambria's Emblem? Here's an example how to do it:

    Editing the cambriaemblem.back (for Cambria's Emblem) file, REPLACE:
    Code:
        "tabwliqimmune1",
        "tabwnofall",
        "tabwaregen",
        "tabweregen",
        "tabwglow",
        "tabwjump",
        "tabwrage",
        "tabwrun",

    WITH:
    Code:
        "tabwliqimmune3",
        "tabwnofall",
        "tabwaregenwri",
        "tabweregenwri",
        "tabwglowclawri",
        "tabwjumpclawri",
        "tabwrageclawri",
        "tabwrunclawri",

    If you don't understand how Cambria's Emblem was gained the buffs of the Writer's, please refer to the legend. Essentially, you're replacing Cambria's buffs with the Writer's. You can replace any of these values to how you see fit.

    Another example of changing buff effects; if you just wanted full "Liquid Immunity", and the Writer's "Jump/Run Boost" on Cambria's Emblem, you could do as such:

    Editing the cambriaemblem.back (for Cambria's Emblem) file, REPLACE:
    Code:
        "tabwliqimmune1",
        "tabwnofall",
        "tabwaregen",
        "tabweregen",
        "tabwglow",
        "tabwjump",
        "tabwrage",
        "tabwrun",

    WITH:
    Code:
        "tabwliqimmune3",
        "tabwnofall",
        "tabwaregen",
        "tabweregen",
        "tabwglow",
        "tabwjumpwri",
        "tabwrage",
        "tabwrunwri",

    Removing Buff Effects:

    What if you want to remove some buff effects on the emblems? Let's say that you just want the "Glow", "Jump Boost", and "Run Boost" effects for Chase's Emblem.

    Editing the chaseemblem.back (for Claudio's Emblem) file, REPLACE:
    Code:
        "tabwliqimmune2",
        "tabwnofall",
        "tabwaregencha",
        "tabweregencha",
        "tabwglowcha",
        "tabwjumpcha",
        "tabwragecha",
        "tabwruncha",

    WITH:
    Code:
        "tabwglowcha",
        "tabwjumpcha",
        "tabwruncha",

    Changing Buff Effects:

    If you feel that the current buffs are too powerful (or maybe even too weak), there's a simple fix for that. Let's edit the "Jump Boost" effects for Wilhelm's Emblem to make it a little less powerful:

    Editing the tabwjumpwil.lua (for Wilhelm's Emblem) file, CHANGE:
    Code:
          jumpModifier = 0.24

    TO:
    Code:
          jumpModifier = 0.15

    Instead of a 24% Jump Boost for Wilhelm's Emblem, you'll now have a 15% boost in Jump. Huzzah! What about making the "Jump Boost" more powerful? Well, here you go:

    Editing the tabwjumpwil.lua (for Wilhelm's Emblem) file, CHANGE:
    Code:
          jumpModifier = 0.24

    TO:
    Code:
          jumpModifier = 2.50

    Now you have a crazy 250% boost in jump from a piddly 24% on Wilhelm's Emblem. Please note that only certain buffs use the .lua file for adjustment values. Some are a lot less confusing to edit; such is the case for the "Rage" buff. To edit that buff, you simply edit the .statuseffect file instead of the .lua file (just to name an example).

    Changing Glow Radius:

    I changed the amount as to how much ambient lighting can pass through solid items, like rock, through a patch file. This file is located in the main directory of the mod folder, so you can't miss it. For this example, I'll change the value back to the one used in vanilla.

    Editing the lighting.config.patch file, CHANGE:
    Code:
    {
      "op": "replace",
      "path":"/lighting/spreadMaxObstacle",
      "value": 16
    }

    TO:
    Code:
    {
      "op": "replace",
      "path":"/lighting/spreadMaxObstacle",
      "value": 8
    }

    On the flipside, if you wanted the effect more prominent, you could do something like this:

    Editing the lighting.config.patch file, CHANGE:
    Code:
    {
      "op": "replace",
      "path":"/lighting/spreadMaxObstacle",
      "value": 16
    }

    TO:
    Code:
    {
      "op": "replace",
      "path":"/lighting/spreadMaxObstacle",
      "value": 32
    }

    Just make sure you don't raise the value too high, as it may make the framerate drop on your computer quite significantly. I would recommend raising the value by 8 each time, until you find something that works best for you without too much of a framerate loss.

    Adjusting Health Regen Values:

    I feel that these rates are spot on and powerful without being too powerful, but you may disagree. To make the effect a little more weaker, let's edit the Writer's Emblem, as an example.

    Editing the tabwaregenwri.lua (for Wilhelm's Emblem) file, CHANGE:
    Code:
      self.healingRate = 0.0120 / effect.configParameter("healTime", 1)

    TO:
    Code:
      self.healingRate = 0.0050 / effect.configParameter("healTime", 1)

    Now instead of a regeneration value of 1.2% to your health per second, you're getting a regeneration value of .5% to your health per second.

    What about making the health regeneration effect a lot more powerful?

    Editing the tabwaregenwri.lua (for Wilhelm's Emblem) file, CHANGE:
    Code:
      self.healingRate = 0.0120 / effect.configParameter("healTime", 1)

    TO:
    Code:
      self.healingRate = 0.5000 / effect.configParameter("healTime", 1)

    Now you have a regeneration value of 50% to your health per second. These values can be a little confusing if you don't fully comprehend how it's being changed, so I'll list references to values below.
    • 0.0010 is .1%
    • 0.0020 is .2%
    • 0.0030 is .3%
    • 0.0040 is .4%
    • 0.0050 is .5%
    • 0.0100 is 1%
    • 0.0200 is 2%
    • 0.0300 is 3%
    • 0.0400 is 4%
    • 0.0500 is 5%
    • 0.1000 is 10%
    • 0.2000 is 20%
    • 0.3000 is 30%
    • 0.4000 is 40%
    • 0.5000 is 50%
    • 1.0000 is 100%

    Adjusting Energy Regen Values:

    Currently, the mod makes it so that the cooldown for energy to regenerate at is 3 seconds (excluding the Writer's Emblem), and fast recharge rates. If you feel that the current rates are way too powerful (even maybe too weak), below is an example how to change it. I'll use Coheed's Emblem as an example:

    Editing the tabweregencoh.lua (for Coheed's Emblem) file, CHANGE:
    Code:
      effect.addStatModifierGroup({{stat = "energyRegenPercentageRate", basePercentage = 0.80}})
      effect.addStatModifierGroup({{stat = "energyRegenBlockDischarge", basePercentage = 1.00}})

    TO:
    Code:
      effect.addStatModifierGroup({{stat = "energyRegenPercentageRate", basePercentage = 0.00}})
      effect.addStatModifierGroup({{stat = "energyRegenBlockDischarge", basePercentage = 0.00}})

    This change reverts the energy regeneration and cooldown rate back to the original base game values. If you want something really powerful, you could do this as an example:

    Editing the tabweregencoh.lua (for Coheed's Emblem) file, CHANGE:
    Code:
      effect.addStatModifierGroup({{stat = "energyRegenPercentageRate", basePercentage = 0.80}})
      effect.addStatModifierGroup({{stat = "energyRegenBlockDischarge", basePercentage = 1.00}})

    TO:
    Code:
      effect.addStatModifierGroup({{stat = "energyRegenPercentageRate", basePercentage = 5.00}})
      effect.addStatModifierGroup({{stat = "energyRegenBlockDischarge", basePercentage = 3.00}})

    Editing the values this way will make it so you get a gigantic boost of x5 to your energy regeneration, with a 1 second cooldown. Please note that the max value implemented for the Energy Regeneration Cooldown Reduction is "3.00"; I could tweak this value in a later update for a max value of 10.00 or so eventually. Going above this value will not crash your game, but you won't see a change in cooldown if you go above the value of "3.00".

    Adjusting Armor Values:

    Maybe you enjoy the armor values that the emblems provide, but what if you want to make them have a weaker or stronger value? For this example, I'm going to make the armor on Jesse's Emblem stronger.

    Editing the jesseemblem.back (for Jesse's Emblem) file, CHANGE:
    Code:
      "statusEffects" : [
        "tabwliqimmune1",
        "tabwnofall",
        "tabwaregenjes",
        "tabweregenjes",
        "tabwglowjes",
        "tabwjumpjes",
        "tabwragejes",
        "tabwrunjes",
        {
          "stat" : "protection",
          "amount" : 18
        },
        {
          "stat" : "maxEnergy",
          "amount" : 160
        },
        {
          "stat" : "maxHealth",
          "amount" : 16
        }
      ]

    TO:
    Code:
      "statusEffects" : [
        "tabwliqimmune1",
        "tabwnofall",
        "tabwaregenjes",
        "tabweregenjes",
        "tabwglowjes",
        "tabwjumpjes",
        "tabwragejes",
        "tabwrunjes",
        {
          "stat" : "protection",
          "amount" : 40
        },
        {
          "stat" : "maxEnergy",
          "amount" : 300
        },
        {
          "stat" : "maxHealth",
          "amount" : 20
        }
      ]

    Instead of +16 health ("maxHealth"), +160 energy ("maxEnergy") and +18 armor ("protection"), Jesse's Emblem now provides +20 health/+300 energy/+40 armor.

    Removing Armor Values:

    This one can be a little tricky to explain, only because you'll have to remove a comma after the last buff in the .back file if you decide to completely remove the armor values, otherwise the game will crash. The good thing is that the game will crash on startup if you messed something up here, so you immediately know if you did something wrong.

    For this example, I'll list editing the Writer's Emblem, with some buffs removed (and changed/switched around) so it's a little more complex and you'll be able to learn a little better from this example.

    Editing the writeremblem.back (for Writer's Emblem) file, CHANGE:
    Code:
      "statusEffects" : [
        "tabwrunjes",
        "tabweregencla",
        "tabwglowcoh",
        "tabwaregen",
        "tabwjumpwil",
        "tabwnofall",
        {
          "stat" : "protection",
          "amount" : 70
        },
        {
          "stat" : "maxEnergy",
          "amount" : 600
        },
        {
          "stat" : "maxHealth",
          "amount" : 50
        }
      ]

    TO:
    Code:
      "statusEffects" : [
        "tabwrunjes",
        "tabweregencla",
        "tabwglowcoh",
        "tabwaregen",
        "tabwjumpwil",
        "tabwnofall"
      ]

    Notice how the comma is removed after the "No Fall Damage" ("tabwnofall") buff/immunity? The structure in your file will be completely different from the example listed above, so I hope you were able to grasp the idea. If you want to keep some of the armor values in, but not remove them completely, here's another example (removing +armor and +health for the Writer's Emblem):

    Editing the writeremblem.back (for Writer's Emblem) file, CHANGE:
    Code:
      "statusEffects" : [
        "tabwrunjes",
        "tabweregencla",
        "tabwglowcoh",
        "tabwaregen",
        "tabwjumpwil",
        "tabwnofall",
        {
          "stat" : "protection",
          "amount" : 70
        },
        {
          "stat" : "maxEnergy",
          "amount" : 600
        },
        {
          "stat" : "maxHealth",
          "amount" : 50
        }
      ]

    TO:
    Code:
      "statusEffects" : [
        "tabwrunjes",
        "tabweregencla",
        "tabwglowcoh",
        "tabwaregen",
        "tabwjumpwil",
        "tabwnofall",
        {
          "stat" : "maxEnergy",
          "amount" : 600
        }
      ]

    Again, the structure in your file will be completely different from the example listed above. Notice how the comma remains after the "No Fall Damage" ("tabwnofall") buff/immunity? You'll have to keep the comma in after the last buff if you keep any of the armor values, but remove a comma from the last curly bracket within the square bracket. I hope that wasn't too confusing.

    Changing/Removing Particle Effects:

    Removing the particle effects (those little dots that surround your character when an Emblem is equipped) is simple as pie. For this example, we're going to remove the particle effects from "Jump Boost" for Jesse's Emblem.

    Editing the tabwjumpjes.animation (for Jesse's Emblem) file, CHANGE:
    Code:
                "color" : [255, 230, 204, 102],

    TO:
    Code:
                "color" : [255, 230, 204, 0],

    If you prefer to have the particle effects, just more transparent or opaque, then you can change the value of 102 to anything between 0 and 255. As from the example above, the value of 0 will make the particles completely transparent. On the flip side, a value of 255 will make the particle effects completely opaque.

    The "Glow", "Run Boost" and "Health Regeneration" buffs use custom images for the particle effects, so if you want these effects removed, you can download .zip files below that contain completely transparent images to remove these effects. To install, simply place the folder in .\Starbound\giraffe_storage\mods\The Amorybound Wars vX.X.X\ directory and replace the files it asks you to overwrite with. Since these are just images, you can do this with any future versions as well. It won't cause any problems or incompatibility issues.

    Changing/Removing "rage" Text:

    Getting rid of it is as simple as removing particle effects, you just need to edit the .animation files for the "Rage" buff. In the example, I'll use the "Rage" buff for Wilhelm's Emblem.

    Editing the tabwragewil.animation (for Wilhelm's Emblem) file, CHANGE:
    Code:
              "particle" : {
                "type" : "text",
                "text" : "rage",
                "size" : 0.75,
                "color" : [255, 204, 204, 255],

    TO:
    Code:
              "particle" : {
                "type" : "text",
                "text" : "rage",
                "size" : 0.75,
                "color" : [255, 204, 204, 0],

    If you'd like to keep the text effect but just change it to something different, then simply replace rage to anything you wish. You will need to keep the text in quotation marks, however.

    Non-Animated Emblems:

    If you dislike how the Emblems are now animated on your character, you can download a .zip file here with all the original image files for the Emblems. To install, simply place the folder in .\Starbound\giraffe_storage\mods\The Amorybound Wars vX.X.X\ directory and replace the files it asks you to overwrite with. Since these are just images, you can do this with any future versions as well. It won't cause any problems or incompatibility issues.

    I hope you found this guide helpful, as well as informative. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Good luck, and above all, HAVE FUN!

    I've taken this online, mod works great itself :D BUT i was invisible to everyone & everything [ motion sensors ] so as is - the multi-player server host will probably need it installed to not be invisible. on the other hand it wont crash the game to use it

    -> to become visible again you have to take it off and re-login to the server <-

    Thank you so much! I'm currently testing a new version in single player to make sure it's good to go and upload, but as soon as I upload the new version, I'll credit you for this information on the mod page. I really appreciate you testing that for me, I cannot express my appreciation enough.

    i ran into the same invisibility problem before with another mod, I'm prety sure that its the custom lighting effects that cause it because it alters how the character model looks (brightness / shadows of light changing shade of colors or however it works)

    the only way i can think to test this is make a copy of the mod and alter it [ the copy ] to use light effects from within the game like that of a torch or glow stick then take it online to test it. im not sure if the particle effect would also cause the same issue aswell but that could be determined at another time lol.

    and thanks for the credit :D

    Yeah, those sound like it could be the cause of problem. I'm going to change the code for a few things because I think I know what it could be. After I make sure its working perfectly fine on single player, I'm going to test it in multiplayer.

    Also, you're most welcome. :)

    I messed around with the files quite a bit, and tested it both in single player and online. I could make it so that the Emblems will use the standard buffs from within the vanilla game files. So, you'll have the standard jump/run/glow/rage/energy regen buffs from the base game, but you'll be able to be visible. The only thing people won't be able to see is the actual back item on your character. There could be a few ways I go about this:
    • Make a separate folder for the mod inside the .zip file, so that you can choose what version (single player or online) you wish to use.
    • Make a separate version of each Emblem specifically made for single player and online play. The online version would still have the armor and such of the single player version, just not the buffs.
    I'm thinking the second option would be best, but some people might not like the clutter on the crafting page. Then again, I could just keep the mod as it is if people don't mind being invisible to other people who don't have the mod installed with online play. xP

    Great mod, the art for the emblems is great, the last emblem is amazing. Pretty much what I always wanted in a back item. :rofl: Plus the values can easily be adjusted if people find them too OP.

    I've noticed that, if the energy regen effect works, it is only after the cooldown on energy regen has passed. It does not work like the energy regen tech.

    However it doesn't appear to work at all. Cooldown or not. I don't believe the energyRegen stat that you use exists anymore. At least not in any functional form.

    The energy regen tech instead uses "status.modifyResource("energy", energyRegenRate * args.dt)" to effect energy regen. While the energyRegenRate is a local variable that is defined in the .tech file for the tech. So it directly modifies energy.

    Thank you very much for this information, I had no idea that the energy regen buff is depreciated now. I have modified the energy regeneration buff and it works now; reduced the cooldown period to 1 second (as opposed to 5), and added in some actual working variable regeneration rates for each Emblem.

    Once I finish testing and working on some other changes with the mod, I'll credit you on the mod page.

    Awesome! I'm happy just to see it fixed. Having a useful backslot item is great.

    Indeed, I hope you continue to enjoy the mod, and once again, thank you for letting me know about the energy regeneration. A mod really doesn't work unless you have people giving you suggestions and letting the author know of any bugs, so I greatly appreciate it. :)
