Sad day. It was Gyrusens+ causing the issue. Lots of QOL content in there I'm gonna miss.

Glad your problem was squashed. Also Sayter I think you should add Gyrusens+ to the list of incompatible mods if you haven't already.

To troubleshoot, I started fresh and added the first three largest files (FU and whatever the other two were) to see if Starbound began a new game. If it did, then I'd move to installing the next three and then see if I could start a new game... and so on. If I couldn't start a new game, then I'd go to the three I'd just installed and try them one at a time.

Once I found an optimal list that all worked, I took screenshots and named those images THESE FILES WORK.

All in all, the process took me maybe two hours or so. But keep in mind that I've clocked much much more than two hours since then, so that small timeframe was definitely worth it.

    Hi Sayter!
First of all, thank you for continuing to update your wonderful mod again.
Recently I had decided to go back to playing on my historical world, just to see the news of the FU: it just crashes by itself after a few seconds that I open it.
With new characters it does not happen, but I would like to understand if there is hope for the old rescue to which I have dedicated hundreds and hundreds of hours ...

Most of the time, the updates are not reverse compatible with older characters/worlds. This is why I usually wipe the universe/characters every so often.

That's what I'm afraid, I still trust Sayter can find a solution. If, on the other hand, the character was irremediably compromised, I would at least like to be able to save the colossal structures that I built :'D From what I understand they should always be present; even if they are located who knows where in the procedural universe of the game.

Yeah, as long as you don't visit that particular planet, it stays there, but if you land it'll crash, usually. I've run across this randomly. Given how big the universe is in the game, it's all a gamble, lol.

    Lightning Wing Tentacle Wrangler

Does there really need to be an extensive and complicated tutorial with the tricorder? Every time I start a new game I have to build the stupid thing and go through the cave of wonders just to start the real game. It's worse now that a skill tree has been added just to craft certain items. I don't know the reason why all this stuff had been added but an option to skip the tricorder and skill tree stuff would be a saving grace for someone like me so I can get to the main game sooner.

Any ideas on which mod could break default crafting recipes? Lost 22 of them. Checked incompatibles - found nothing, removing one mod after another is pain. Default unlock checker gives no useful information on which mods could break game, only gives list of recipes without link to mod they are from.

P.S. So the culprit is found - SRW Mechs mod

Sayter can you make the built in frackin races skip if the file raceeffect doesn't exist instead of lagging and throwing errors.
    I got fu patch's for 2 race's angel's and nebulac.

TL;DR: Research/madness too slow, especially for player with limited time.

I have been using this mod ever since it was called FrackinFlora. I watched the arms race between FF/FU's item count and my inventory space unfold. I was never someone with the skills to help, or the money to contribute, but I do have a lot of hours experiencing this mod, so here's where I'm going with this:

I’m not a fan of the new research mechanic. It is too slow.

The wiki has a list of reason on why it was changed, and I agree completely with it; the tech tree is a welcome addition to this mod! But unlocking it has no relation to a player’s skill or knowledge of the game, only idle waiting for something to happen.

This is my third day on this save (playtime-wise) and made no tangible progress toward any useful tech- Just the normal crafting table upgrades and a couple redundant or extremely situational plants. As I type this, I’ve been sitting on an atropus world, the 4th one I’ve skimmed for neuropods, trying to get enough madness to unlock the thing as my search was unsuccessful. The wiki states there are anti-idle countermeasures in place, but why bother stopping player from idling, when you could adjust the mechanics so we wouldn’t have to?

I realize there are ways of getting loose research (pc’s, random consumables) but those methods only highlight the unreliability and overall lack of content of Starbound itself. [at this point, I got a +2 research bonus along with a warning about going afk. The anti-idle really doesn’t work]

After thinking about this for an hour, sitting here among the gore, I reached a few solutions to the problem, but also the conclusion that it’s your mod and your vision; and I still love it very much, and will keep playing regardless of the direction it takes. Frackin Flora took a game that didn’t have very much, and turned it into a complicated experience with objectives and stakes; it was (and still is) the only way to play the game for me. I just wanted to vent for a- Oops! Got enough. Rant over, bye! Thanks for all the fun :)

I usually don't worry about research right away. If you spend time exploring planets and collecting resources, it usually builds up pretty fast.

On a new character I shoot for getting the researcher crewmate as early as possible, and try to build towards the researcher armor. When you're not in super dangerous areas, you can swap the armor for the boost.

Also, you can build computers to put things into to generate research. They have to be powered tho.

Ah, yes. The always helpful "I can do it, why can't you?" post. Again, in my nightmare box and wearing a crown so valuable most garden variety simpletons can't even begin to comprehend its worth, I wait for the next threshold. 18k for the spider micro-sphere, after burning 8k on the very useful regular micro-sphere & its cohorts (stimrig is fine i guess...), just so I can go to unlock a proper dance floor to do the "Lovecraft" on.

Even this lv 7 planet is tired of watching me inhale neuropods, and while the first few minutes of flirting with my researcher went ok, the relationship is quickly falling apart. I don't care that there are ways of speeding thing up, I'm just saying, it could require some effort on my part. Remember mineral/bio samples, way back when you had to do things to get the currency? Remember just about a year ago when the main source of research was extraction? That is what i humbly request from the almighty modders- not a system that gives me everything, but one that requires at least some effort...

    or I could just AFK.

    P.S.: Just got 18k. Gonna C R A F T mah S P H E R E

    Requirements: Research Holodisc x 3

    why do you hate me?

    P.P.S.: Got the discs, gonna C R A F-

Requirements: Micro Bomb Sphere (Research Holodisc x 2)

I do feel for ya. Most of my research is gained when I just forget about it and go clear like 3-4 systems.

Haven't really focused on madness just yet, but I have some worlds bookmarked for it.

I tend to play Starbound in bursts, usually 2-3 days a week, every couple weeks. Depending on what else I have going on.
