What factors decide the race of your first character?

Obviously Starbound has already granted us with the character creation, but when the game finally arrives what race will you choose to play as and what determined that?

 

That's a tough one, I like pretty much all of the races, they all have their ups and downs for me. It will probably be a few minutes of trying to decide then just throwing it to the wind and choosing something on an impulse and going with it from there.

 

Character design mainly, some of the lore. The culture and starting things are somewhat a factor, but I can work without it. I absolutely love the Hylotl because they'll have armor that lets you breath underwater, but I love the look of the Novakid. So I think it depends.

 

Avian. I like birds.

 

Novakid, because space cowboys. Let me repeat that SPACE COWBOYS.

 

Hylotl's because of their theme, plus they look cool.

 

Lore and appearance, in that order of importance. If I do not like the lore behind a species, in general I am disinclined to play as one. While visual aesthetics do matter, they are secondary in my mind.

 

I'll most likely play Human first. I don't know, I guess it just seems like the "right" choice to me? Can't really explain it too well... It feels... appropriate.

After that, I'll probably play either the Glitch or Novakid, and maybe the Apex after that. Not sure if I'll play the others, they look nice and all, but, eh, they just don't strike my fancy as much. *shrug*

 

We need some Space Indians.

 

Yea... I pretty much want to be able to say that some people call me a Space Cowboy...


... and they look badass.

 

Looks and racial skills/ passives

 

While that may be a cute counterpoint to the Novakid, I think somehting a little more exotic (based off Earth culture that is) like something drawn from Hindu mythology may be awesome.

 

Space monk?

 

Novakid. If I understand how tech trees work correctly, in that you can eventually gain access to other races tech trees as well, I don't see why I would make a second character.
A plasma space cowboy is pretty much the best thing ever. And considering my server will be a mid-RP server, I can't imagine what better to do with my time then go around as a hothead bounty hunter all day.

 

I like monstery things... Hylotl is close enough.

 

first i'm going to make a human. just to get the hang of the game.

probably nova or glitch or hylotl?

 

Seeing as though the differences in races is just what you can build off the bat,
there really is not much to chose in racial's for me.

Personally I am torn between..
1 Apex: they seem advanced, not just in intellect but
as a species NONE of them rebelled against the V.E.P
and the thing complained about was that only the poorest of
them were chosen it's almost as if they are willing to do anything
to advance themselves as a species, not just selfish goals.

2. Glitch: I always like a unique character and being a droid
Really sticks out amongst a bunch of organics, the fact they
were part of a huge simulation of civilization that being said
they are all probably independent thinking and are much like humans in
mentality just got stuck in the medieval stage.
Oh and I have a soft spot for droids.

So I guess the factor's to decisions are back story.
although I think my decision between these two will probably be
a coin toss.

Edit:Maybe I should do that coin toss now and not think about later huh?

 

Looks and Tech-level, basically.
The main reason I probably won't go Glitch is because their medieval theme, and the reason I probably won't go Apex is because of their looks

 

I pretty much only concerned with the looks and lore of a race. I can be easily swayed towards one race or another with concept art and thats what made me decide on the Novakids.

 

A human, because then I can play as myself! Wooo!
