So I was reading through this thread regarding a server being friefed by pornographic images done using the custom signs, and @teilnehmer had the below idea on how to solve this.

As far as I know, nobody has made a thread suggesting this, but I believe the idea would be excellent to combat any potential griefing a person may do. It's surely worth at least looking into.

All credit for this suggestion should of course go to @teilnehmer. I simply felt this deserved to be made more aware to Chucklefish here in the Suggestions subforum.

A few admin commands dealing with this were also suggested by @teilnehmer and have been put into another thread by @Nerva

No problem at all. They were awesome ideas and should be implemented. Give an easy solution to a big issue.

I just realized: Disabling the sign store will not work as long as it's possible to enter singleplayer and create grief images there.
Alas, I like the author-signature-idea best anyway. :)

Well, it'd still keep people from being able to make grief images on a server. And somone hopping on then suddenly logging off would help serve purposes of narrowing it down.

I suggested it as part of this thread about an hour before you according to timestamps.
Yours does mention the idea of user privileges, though, which is a neat concept that would be a great addition.

NOTE TO MODERATORS: In order to save you some work, I'm talking with Warped regarding what to do with the two threads. If all goes well, you won't need to intervene. I'm confident we can work out a solution on our own.

UPDATE: Everything's been resolved, both capably and reasonably. Warped and teil have both been superb gentlemen about this.

The only fixes I can think of is to either both disable the sign store and require all characters to be made fresh for the server (I know that used to be an option, is it still?) then disable the sign shop, or to set tile protection on cities and such to prevent griefing of all types.

Or, signs get an author signature. :D That is not stopping sign usage, but makes it a less appealing thing to do for griefers.

I meant fixes that are currently in the game.

Oh I see. I was not aware that disabling the sign store was possible ATM.

You can edit the outpost file to remove or add things. On the Galaxy Citizen server, they removed the NPCs and coffee machine for example.

I like the suggestion. As long as it doesn't mean there's a name printed on the sign itself, I'm for it. Checking the description on stuff when you use the little magnifying glass button to read what something is should definitely display the author's name. Another option that server wrapper developers could implement til we get that is to add an item black list feature so we can just put signs on that. Still, totally support the suggestion.

It needs to be reiterated that disabling the sign store or its NPCs will not stop the signs from being made offline then brought online. Either we need author descriptions or an item black list feature.

Although they could maybe set it where disabling the store disables signs as well.
