Welcome to Beacon, the city of peace.

The year is 2044. The Eastern Republic and Western States are still in their uneasy ceasefire, thirty years later. A time of celebration for the people of Beacon, but another year of frustration for the powers that be. The city, which began construction five years after the nation's Civil War began, is supposed to be an example of the country's unity, even divided in half like it is.

Unfortunately, ever since its completion, the Western States have had first say in Beacon's ruling. They have the selective mass-murder bioweapons, they make the rules. The war basically ended when the seceded States rolled out their operation "Hornet". The Eastern soldiers were destroyed by the weapon, requiring either a nuclear strike or a surrender by the E.R. to end the blood bath.

Surrender, then. Neither country is stupid. Since then, Beacon has been under strict Western policing, constantly making sure that the citizes of the "peaceful city" remain peaceful. Neither side wants another war, not really, so the Western's harsh dominance is accepted and unchallenged. The problem is the people, not the governments.

Beacon Police Department: well-equipped, but sorely lacking in the morals department. The Police Council runs the show, and whatever they decide to enforce, the Mayor and the officers are obliged to carry out. First it was a crackdown on crime: that was well received.

Then it was a crackdown on creativity. Graffiti artists and street artists, tossed in mega prisons. Soon after it was anyone who couldn't pay the exorbitant housing taxes: the homeless. Beacon was incredibly expensive to build, even with two nations backing it: the city's politicians have to pay the debt back somehow. In the panic, however, the place is spiraling ever downward, mainly just because the people in charge are too nervous to stop and think. Abandoned megabuildings are pretty prevalent, and a couple small sections of the city have shut down entirely.

There's not really...evil, per say, but the street dwellers are certainly getting the short end of the stick. So they're banding together, forming little gangs to survive, and fight off the BPD. Maybe someday the people will actually be able to make a difference, but that day hasn't come yet.

    ***
This RP is focused on a city that's just like any other, except it's huge and it's heavily in debt. In twenty years, it will probably be bankrupt. Parkour is cool.

The characters are members of a roof gang: people with nowhere to live and nowhere to go except the rooftops and the slums. Maybe they're a professor who takes sympathy on the younguns, maybe they're a street thug. Whatever.

The gang name is the Crows. We are the Crows.

This is 2044, guys, so there's some nifty tech around now. No starships or anything, but maybe some hoverbikes or powered hang-gliders. Use you imagination.

    Name: Alyn Hammons
    Gender: Female
    Age: 21
    Appearance:(Without Glasses)

History: Alyn lived a mostly normal life. She has mild autism, which led her to be shy over the years. She went to school, did well, and generally was respected, if not actually appreciated or known by outsiders to her family. However, her parents, though generally meaning well, quietly resented her mental differences. Although they hid it well, Alyn occassionally caugh snippets of them wishing for a normal child. Despite this, they treated her mostly normally and things moved along smoothly. That is, until Mr. and Mrs. Hammons decided to take up the government's "subsidized inhabitation" program, which paid them a considerable sum to move into the revolutionary Beacon City. It was not enough to pay the property taxes. Alyn's parents were eventually arrested (nobody bothered to tell the "troubled" daughter their sentence), and even before that she was repeatedly targeted by the police on account of "suspicious behavior" derived from her autism. On the streets she was driven further and further into her shell, until she was finally taken in by the Crows.

When she was fist taken in, most of the family, though she did not yet think of them as such, looked down on her somewhat. Some due to her social awkwardness, many due to the assistance she frequently requires whilst attempting to parkour. Still, she was tolerated by everybody, more or less, and no significant issues every really arose. Alyn, in her hopes to be truly accepted by the others, began answering every question she could with pinpoint accuracy. At first it was simply in relation to supplies and known areas where the BPD had a strong presence. However, once she obtained her custom glasses, snatched from a scientist in the R&D department of a major corporation, her role expanded. The glasses, composed of a visor that conceals her eyes from most angles, automatically logs faces, known intel about the subject, keeps video record of what it views, and other miscellaneous information. Now she's the Crows' semi-official recordkeeper, tracking supplies, members, events, city transport schedules, and much more. The Crows are the closest family she's ever had, and now only newcomers ever doubt her usefulness, and they not for long.

Key Note: Mildly autistic. This means she's considerably above average with memoriziation, numbers, etc., but generally remains quiet to avoid difficult social situations and drawing attention.

    Ikbenbeter
Name: Lucia Lupe (LOO-pe) (Full/real name: Guadalupe Lucía)
    Gender: Female
    Age: 24
    Appearance:
    History:
Part 1: Carefree summer days. From birth, Guadalupe Lucía (she likes to be called Lucia Lupe, after her grandparents who she called Lucia (grandmother) and Lupe (grandfather, full name Guadalupe Calavera) and also because it is easier to pronounce for most people), has been a girl who is full with energy. As a young child, she used to try escape from wherever she was and go out to adventure. Those early adventures luckily always ended before the front door and nothing bad befell her. Her parents lived in a spacious apartment on the 14th floor of a building in good neighborhood with her grandparents (mother’s side) and the other people on the same floor were nice and open to her. Scared that Lucia would fall her parents tried many things to keep her contained, some successful, some not. However her grandparents never got mad at her for wandering off, partly because it would often happen while they were asleep when they should be watching her, so even if her parents got mad it would never leave enough of an impression to not do it again.

Her father had gotten shipped in to Beacon before Lucia was born because he was a good engineer and worked a lot at a job he could tell his family nothing about. When he was home, he would always find a joke to make Lucia laugh, even if his taste of humor was odd and his wife and father-in-law frowned upon them a little. Her mother owned a flower shop in the nearby arcade which didn't make a lot of money, but the shop is beautiful. She was also busy a lot, but would always find time to help Lucia with school, work or social issues. Lucia also has a sister, Joanna, who is 3 years younger. When they were small, their relationship was no different from ordinary sisters and they did some things together but had their own groups of friends. Joanna is more timid and would rarely go on Lucia's adventures with her. Lucia was very happy in those days. She loved everything about it and was a happy child.

Part 2: But then one day. But then one day, when Lucia was 14, an accident happened. On the day Lucia's father was taking Lucia's grandfather to show the project he was working on (he was allowed in because he was a war veteran and it was veteran day), a horrible accident happened and an explosion killed half the people in that building, including Lucia's father. Her grandfather fell into a coma and when he woke up 8 years later he couldn't move his legs. The family was paid a handsome amount by the government but Lucia's mother and grandmother were destroyed mentally. In that period, Joanna took over running the flower shop with a surprising amount of success. Her mother took her own life half a year later. Joanna, Lucia Lupe and Lucia senior were scared, sad and confused. Joanna dealt with it by focusing all her time on school and running the flower shop, the thing that reminded her of her mother. Lucia senior read book after book, only stopping to cook or wash. The 3 also moved from the 14th to the 24th floor, to a smaller apartment with neighbors who never were home or at least never answered the door.

Lucia Lupe had no idea what to do. So in her head, she made plans. She dropped out of school with her best friend Manuel, a boy a year younger and the two tried to set up businesses and find jobs together. It is important to note that Lucia only got more energy during this time, trying to appear optimistic and happy and as if she had moved on, but crying herself to sleep every night. Joanna and Lucia senior didn't even notice anything. They cried a lot too, and they were too busy in their own worlds to notice the changes in the now 15 year old girl. When asked later, Joanna admitted that even though Lucia told her she wasn't aware of the fact that Lucia quit school. The family had enough money thanks to the government, enough to supply Lucia Lupe's schemes (those made some money sometimes but in the end cost far more than they were worth) and Lucia seniors reading habit. With the help from the flower store, they usually broke even, unless a scheme involved a big investment.

Ever since moving in to the 24th, Lucia didn't feel at home anymore when she was home. Her grandmother just provided food on the table and was otherwise a piece of scenery and her sister got home late and tired. Because of this, Lucia spent most of her nights with Manuel in the small workshop they had bought for cheap in a bad part of town. Sometime after turning 16 (a birthday that was only celebrated by a cake bought by Manuel after Lucia had told him it was her birthday), she wanted to move out of the house and into workshop which had a bedroom. Joanna begged her to stay, but Manuel convinced Joanna that it was better for Lucia if she moved out on her own. It probably helped that Joanna had a huge crush on Manuel. Lucia and Manuel never were anything, lovewise, since Lucia always associated him with the loss of her father since she was with him when someone told her the news.

Lucia now needed a job, so she could afford food and would later pay for Manuel’s training, who in her fiftieth plan (it was always Lucia who would come up with the plans) was going to become a cage fighter and make big bucks that way. She worked at a casino for a while as a coat-checker, as a dishwasher, as a waitress, as a cinema clerk and as a hotel attendant. She was always fired quickly because her energeticness annoyed the hell out of people. When they got enough money she managed Manuel full time. In that time, she met a lot of unsavory types, but because her best friend was a cage fighter they didn't dare harm her. In this time, she came into contact with the Crows but didn't really do anything with that. Half a year into the fighting career and not doing that bad, Manuel got sabotaged and was sent into the hospital, breaking his left arm and resulting in permanent injury to his eyes which required him to wear huge glasses to see at all times. Manuel could no longer cage fight. When Lucia's money ran out and Manuel was forced out of the hospital, Joanna took Manuel into the house and took care of him there. Joanna and Manuel married 2 years later.

    Part 3: Counting Crows.
Lucia was still in trouble, however. She didn't need to pay rent and her sister was happy to pay her bills, but Lucia felt abandoned by Manuel and her next few plans failed big time, costing over 5 thousand combined. Joanna got angry, and limited Lucia's allowance to a bare minimum. She was also getting a lot of unwanted attention as a single 21 year old women from the neighbors and thus had to carry a gun at all times. So she hatched her next plan: she would infiltrate a gang for the police. She knew enough people from the cage fighting days to not be suspicious and assumed that the police would pay well for information from a woman on the inside. She could fight relatively well thanks to her training a little alongside Manuel. She cut her hair and got into a gang called the Eagles. After a few months she approached a local police station and tried to sell them information about the Eagles. Instead, they put her in prison for a year for being in a gang. Ashamed, she didn't dare contact Joanna about this and sat it out.

In prison, she befriended a man named Arvel. Arvel was a somewhat older member of the Crows who had been imprisoned at the same time as Lucia and always spoke full of happiness about the Crows. Unlike Lucia, he had a rough childhood and never felt like he had a place where he belonged. In the war, he befriended a man who would later be one of the first members of the Crows, and he joined after him. He too, got put in prison for being in a gang but had gotten a 10 year sentence. This was all told in fragments, since the men only saw the women at food time. Lucia told the old man almost nothing, and only in the last month opened up to him.

The moment Lucia walked out of the doors of the prison, it hit her that she had made mistakes. Here she was, finally free, but she was a 23 year old woman with no education, no connections and no money. Joanna and Manuel were very happy but also angry when Lucia got out. They had lost nearly their whole inheritance to new taxes in the last year. However, Lucia was finally reunited with her grandfather. Joanna offered Lucia a job at the flower shop, but Lucia knew that she would just be another mouth to feed and didn't like such a quiet job at all. She joined the Crows, and quickly established herself as someone who could come up with creative plans and quick solutions, although a tad annoying. She also found out the Eagles got raided with the information she gave the police and disbanded, but because Lucia had gone to prison at that exact moment she wasn't being suspected of being a rat at all.
edit: my tactic with this bio is make it so long no one will ever read and and find the inconsistencies

  7. Name: Remus Newell

    Gender: Male

    Age: 25

    History:
Rem never knew his parents. He was dropped in the foster system from day one, cycling through and through the families of the Eastern Republic's northern most state. It was a cold place, and a cold life: few of the families could really give the same warmth and comfort that real parents could provide. Even when he found a family that truly made him feel loved, something would go wrong, they would run low on money, or he would make a stupid mistake, and then he was moving on to the next house. It was really no way to live. For twelve years, Rem went through the motions, trying to find a place, but never succeeding. Not until Jonas.

Jonas wasn't a traditional foster family by any means. The man was an ancient, chain smoking, foul-mouthed relic, who liked to start fires in the sink every morning to cook the eggs and bacon. The man was still alive through luck and sheer force of will alone. He took potshots at children that got too close to his lawn. If it hadn't been with an airsoft gun, he probably would have been arrested. Half the time Jonas thought Remus was a hallucination and used the boy as a bounce for all of his problems. The man had managed to get into the foster system through a fluke and a well-maintained house, and Rem loved the man. They spent hours talking, sometimes late into the night. From him Rem learned all sorts of crazy stuff: the start of the war, life before the two halves started hounding each other.

Sure, Jonas started, clumsily and lazily, trying to kill Rem as they both grew even older, but Rem always saw the violence as a chance to learn, and at the end of each burst, Jonas would break down and sob into Rem's arms, telling the teenager how much he had missed the boy, and that he'd almost gotten that damned ghost this time. Maybe Jonas wasn't as old as Rem had first thought, but he definitely had a few screws loose in the head. Remus didn't mind keep an eye on the man who had finally given him a place to belong. It was strange: even with all the crazy goings ons during Rem's childhood, there was always the moment when Jonas, limping by to get something for his damned leg, would squat down next to Rem and fix his math homework's mistakes. There was real affection there, even if half the time Jonas wasn't even awake.

And around his sixteenth birthday, Remus finally learned that Jonas was only sixty years old. The two of them considered that shared piece of knowledge a cornerstone in their relationship.

It was too good to last. Something had to give, and it ended up being the windows. A burglar kicked in the back pane of glass one night. Rem, asleep upstairs, barely heard the poor man be soundly whipped by Jonas and his cane. What he did hear, however, was the knocking on the door, from the Eastern Republic's foster system. Jonas was "no longer a safe and conducive home for a young man like him". So they ferreted him away.

Remus didn't plan on going to another home, no sir. He was sixteen years old and more than old enough to take care of himself. He ran as soon as child services dropped him at the next house, running and running until he couldn't anymore. Then he found a pretty large city, more by chance than by luck, and started living on the streets, just as he'd planned. He may have romanticized that more than a little bit: between dodging gangs and finding the next meal, it was a miracle he even survived the next two years. He did, but not on his own: he eventually got accepted into a street gang, painful hazing ceremony and all. The Kites. A rough bunch, but the good sort of rough: they toughened Remus up, gave him some much needed boldness.

But they didn't last either. The Kites got too involved in a game of "catch up or cops". Everyone but Remus got "cop"d, leaving Remus once again on his own. But he was smarter this time. Infinitely more in shape, and definitely more prepared to take on the world. He decided it was better to not stick around town, so he left, hitch-hiking his way down to beacon. Remus had heard that the city was less dangerous for people like him, so he headed off to find out if it was true.

He made it, of course. It wasn't like he couldn't take care of himself. Once there, however, he could easily tell that he wasn't safe there on the streets. A crazy idea wormed its way into his mind: why not join the police? Keep the city safer for the people like him? So he did, somehow. A lot of Rem's life seemed to work itself out. Maybe karma was paying him back for not having any real parents, but he got into the force, got his badge.

Rem hated it. He hated the form, hated the structure, hated the BPD Council telling him how to live his life. He made the choice to leave when he was sent to help arrest a gang of hooligans: the Crows. They'd done nothing wrong, just sitting around on the rooftops, but they were to be processed without mercy. Remus couldn't have that, not after being with the Kites for two years. He sprung the captured Crows free, and then he was an outlaw, just like that. Three years of service, down the drain.

But he'd gotten a good deal out of it all. Brent, the leader of the Crows, was pretty damn thankful that Remus had let his boys go. And so Remus was invited into the gang, on the condition that he be placed under guard for a long while. That long while passed without even a moment of hesitation, and now Remus works with the Crows like he'd always been there. He hasn't seen Jonas since they were separated, but Remus knows, he just knows, that as soon as he can, he's going to visit the old bastard, and give him the surprise attack of a lifetime.

Name: Andrew Steele, will accept people saying Andy
    Gender: Male
    Age: 26
    Appearance:

    History:
Andrew had a simple life, though a little shitty. Never knew his mother, could have been a prostitute for all his father had told him about her. His father was an influential criminal, one of those that got rich robbing and quit it early. Despite this vast wealth and influence, he was taken into prison by the BPD and then promptly died there due to an “unfortunate accident”.

After his father's arrest he was taken to a state orphanage, a pretty bad one at that, they called it a facility for “problematic children”, and that he was. Often got into fights with other kids simply because he didn't like them, or they looked at him funny. After the people in charge gave him one last chance he decided to vent his frustration into something else, pissing off the BPD by painting graffiti art in the richer districts, and having to run from the cops often he taught himself parkour, no tricks or flourish just running.

And he kept running, until they caught him. His quick stint in prison was unremarkable, other than making some friends, acquaintances and getting some names. He eventually got out on good behaviour, though he was 20 by then, and too old to go back into care. Instead decided to join a crew he'd heard of, Alley Cats. The crew ran well, and got pretty rich, however their leader grew too complacent and eventually was caught and locked up. After the group disbanded Andrew made it away with his share, and some more he managed to swipe from the leader’s stash and started running solo. He managed for a few years, making friends and enemies, though those never stayed around long once they made their views on him clear. In general, Andrew had a good life, but fell into debt with a mob boss. He was told to steal from the Crows, and even though Andrew thought it a fool’s errand, he couldn't simply decline. So he made the run, managed to steal the money, but was caught whilst escaping. He was given 2 options, join the Crows, or die.

He didn't feel like dying just yet.

Note: Heavy drinker, smokes tobacco and pot, has done other drugs

Name: Samuel Miles Malloy, goes by Sam or Sammy

    Gender: Male

    Age: 19

    Appearance:

History: Any person who didn't know Samuel, but had heard of his family would say he was rather well off. His father was a respectable English teacher at a private school and his mother worked as a nurse for the local hospital. Any person who actually knew Samuel would know his father was anything but respectable. Behind closed doors, his father was known to indulge in his collection of alcoholic beverages and perform acts of domestic violence. Sam had memorized the patterns of his father's weekly progression into his abuse. It would begin with a glass of wine at dinner, red, seemingly innocent, until he would bring up something, anything from the day, which had caused him grief. A troublesome child was usually what would trigger the strife. "Do you know what that kid did today?" He would say, looking at either Sam or Sam's mother, depending on who his father felt like hitting that night. "No, what was it this time?" One of them would reply, simply to delay the inevitable. His father would point to the bottle on the counter, expecting Sam to get up and pour him a glass. Samuel was to stop pouring precisely when his father told him, unless he wanted it to become "his night," if it wasn't already. He would take a sip, stand to look out the window and exhale.
He feared his father, as any child would and it wasn't until he got older that he realized the best way to avoid his father's wrath altogether was to simply leave home. He started living on the streets, dropped out of school, bought a wheeless skateboard, and became a regular pot smoker. Occasionally one of his father's friends would see Sammy hanging out on the roofs, skating, which would only make his father furious. Little did Sam know that because he was gone, his mother was getting beaten more. Disregarding his old life, he chose to become a member of the Crows.

Notes: Highly fearful of his father, very friendly to most people, and known to share a blunt
