Hi! Since many Intel graphics cards are having trouble with the Direct3D, I decided it would be time to help others out.

THIS IS A FIX FOR THOSE WHO ARE SUFFERING FROM CRASHES RELATING TO DIRECT3D OR FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO USE OPENGL INSTEAD. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SWITCH TO OPENGL DO NOT FOLLOW THIS TUTORIAL.

In case you did follow it, just rename the files back so that the original starbound.exe is starbounx.exe again.

    Easy Converter
This is an easy converter for Windows systems. It finds your installation location of Starbound (Either Program Files or Program Files x86) and swaps out the starbound.exe for starbound_opengl.exe, backing up both of those files into another folder.

I have also included an undo tool that will undo the converter's actions and create a backup of starbound.exe and starbound_opengl.exe

    Source code:

    What you need
    - Starbound
    - Able to use the Windows Explorer to navigate in folders

    What you will do
To fix this problem, simply navigate to Steam's SteamApps 'common' folder. (Google-jitsu can help you in this!)
Now, you will see a folder called Starbound. Go to the folder and go to the folder called win32.
In here you should see 2 applications and 1 icon as well as .dlls. The applications are 'starbound.exe' and 'starbound_opengl.exe' and the icon is 'starbound.icon'. Now, copy starbound.exe and starbound_opengl.exe to a safe location just in case. Then, rename starbound.exe in the SteamApps folder to starbound_old.exe and rename starbound_opengl.exe to starbound.exe. Now, run the launcher and play the game. It will run starbound.exe, which is now actually a copy of the OpenGL version!

    I hope this was helpful.

    Molpy Down
ELI5 (explain like I am five) steps
    0. Locate your Steam folder (in Program Files or Program Files x86)
    1. Go to the folder called 'SteamApps', then to the folder called 'common'
    2. Go to the folder called 'Starbound'
    3. Go to the folder called 'win32'
    4. Copy 'starbound.exe' and 'starbound_opengl.exe' to a safe location
    5. Rename 'starbound.exe' to 'starbound_old.exe'
    6. Rename 'starbound_opengl.exe' to 'starbound.exe'
    7. Launch the game

May need to add the .exe as one of the programs in your graphics control panel. If you're running on an integrated card, it may not support OpenGL 2.0. It might also be a case where you may need to update your drivers. Microsoft provided drivers typically have issues supporting OpenGL.

I have added opengl_converter.cmd and opengl_undo.cmd to easily convert your game to OpenGL and back.

Note that this is ONLY for Windows and has been tested on
Windows 7 64-bit (Program Files x86 installation of steam)

You download opengl_convert.cmd and then run it in a Windows OS

    PS_ghost Hey, You!

Downloading a "converter tool" to rename two files is the type of behavior that gets you a virus. Nobody should ever distribute an executable for such a thing. There is no reason any user should be unable to manually rename two files.
