"It isnt? I didn't know that"

 

The forests life continued to be drained by the dome.

 

"Mio, don't worry. You can organize them when we get back to the spring," Alysia said with a giggle. The slimes continued their work. They just about had all they could carry by this point. The rest had to be put back on the shelves or left in a cart for the keepers.

 

Mio blushed yet again and decided to keep his hands to himself. "Sorry." He picked up the last stack and followed them back to the catacombs.

 

"Nah. You found me in my forest. Remember?"

 

"Yeah, now I do. Sometimes I forget important things"

Iris followed both of them..

 

Several minutes had passed and both Kalissa Iota had been gearing up for the hive. Even if Kara wasn't openly hostile, he still didn't want to take any chances. He grabbed his pistol, dagger, and a rifle from his room and headed to the front gate of the castle to wait for Kalissa.

 

Kalissa had headed to her room and donned her rogue's armor, strapping her 2 daggers to her belt and her third dagger to her leg, and her thief's toolkit stored in her pouch.
Now geared up in her leather armor, Kalissa headed to the front gate to meet up with Iota.

 

Iota was leaning against the stone wall next to the gate. He had the necklace wrapped around his hand and was studying the gem once more. He looked up when Kalissa approached. "...Sure you wanna tag along?" He said.

 

"Yeah, can't have you going in there alone, what if something does happen? Last thing we need is you getting stuck in the hive mind!" Kalissa replied, walking over to Iota.
"Never hurts to have some backup!"

 

The changeling smiled and put the necklace back in his pocket. He pushed off of the wall and headed out the main gate. "Well c'mon then. Let's not keep her highness waiting."

The two wandered the forest for several minutes, more or less searching for the hive entrance. Iota kept his weapons holstered and his rifle slung on his back so as to avoid the appearance of hostility.

 

The forest started to end, and then gave way to just grass...

The two travelers started to feel.... as if they were being watched.... as they continued even further...

The ground they walked on became.... almost dead, the grass giving way to a dark grey sandy soil...

Each step they took sounded louder than the last as all the ambient sounds around them died down...


Suddenly, at the edges of their vision they saw a changeling girl standing some distance away and seemingly staring off into space, as if she didn't hear or see them at all....

 

The silence was eerie, and the lack of any sort of plant life definitely made Iota unsettled. This was all too familiar to him, and he struggled to keep his mind from calling back memories of his former hive. He stopped when he saw the changeling girl some distance off and put out his arm to make Kalissa do the same. She didn't look like she'd noticed them yet, but Iota knew a thing or two about hive tactics. He couldn't shake the feeling of being watched since they left the forest. "...Hello!?" He called out to the girl. He made sure not to make any aggressive motions.

 

The girl continued doing as she was, as if she hadn't heard him at all....

 

"What's up with her I wonder..?" Kalissa asked, looking at the girl curiously.
"And for that matter, what happened here? It's like something has sucked the life out of the area..." she added, looking around the area.

 

"...Plants don't like chaos magic too much," Iota eventually responded. "At least, certain kinds of it anyway... I'm going to try something. Don't do anything sudden." He slowly and casually started walking closer to the girl, setting his rifle on the ground only a few steps from Kalissa as he did so. He didn't attempt to call out again.

 

As the he drew close to the girl, she turned her head, smiling innocently, and waved.


There was a deep creaking sound as the dead earth beneath him crumpled away to reveal giant hole...

 

Of course. Iota dropped into the darkness of the pit, but he did not look overly concerned or, for that matter, surprised.

 

Kalissa was startled, but decided to follow Iota down the hole.
"Should've expected that to happen..." she thought, slowly walking over to the hole then jumping in, slowing her fall with wind magic.

 

They both traveled a pretty long drop.... before landing in a giant pool of....... slimy water.... bright green slime....


Oh, and this pool was right in front of Kara's throne, the hell?

And the throne room was completely re done too, covered in metal and completely modernized....


Kara simply looked at them and started to clap, her face lacking any emotion.
