A cross species fungus would make for a cool Event.

    Race For The Cure!
Find a cure for the spores infecting known space, or purposely infect colonies to watch the mutating fun! The choice is yours.....

That would actually be great, but only if players can get infected. Maybe it could be like some sort of poison effect that slowly kills you unless you use the cure.

That's what I was thinking. A disease mechanic would be a sweet addition. Maybe preventing infection requires a lengthy crafting quest?

Sounds good Ronin. What if purposely infecting players spawned Agaran mini-bosses? That'd be cool.

it could be contagious, it would be awesome in multiplayer

If Agaran spores were infectious as an actual feature and not just lore, it could be amazing. People on servers might set up quarantined zones, to defend against the plague.

That'd be great but only if you can tell infected players from normal players, be able to maintain a distance (you'll only be infected if within, say, 4 blocks of the player) and a craftable vaccine.

Exactly. People in the USCM could quarantine planets, nuke them from orbit, destroying any spores on the planet (at the cost of transforming it into a moon biome and making it uninhabitable), or, if planets are simply quarantined, players could have a lot of fun smuggling supplies to quarantined areas.

Yeah, such a fight-for-your-life quarantine environment would serve nicely. Discard the nuke idea tho, because we can't technically make it an "infected planet" unless infected creatures/players could infect blocks and after a certain number of blocks the biome changes to infected. And nuking a planet without certain rules would just be a complete griefing tool.

Doesn't that mean after encountering them, you have mushrooms growing inside of you, too...? I'm scared.

Yes. Technically, but if there was some sort of infection system which could either work by distance; step withing, say, 5 blocks of an infected organism and you'll instantly be infected and it'll work like a player effect or it could work by time; when coming within distance of something infected a bar pops up and starts slowly depleting until you get out of range. If it reaches zero you become infected, which could mean death or an effect like before.

    Would it be permadeath though?

I guess not, the only alternative would be following up on my previous post though. A mini-boss Agaran/whatever race the player is should spawn. It should be based on the old player's stats and items.

The top 3 teirs should be on "infected" planets, Causing players to make a short term cure to go for a short time.

when an infected player dies in any way, they should spawn a mini boss, causing trouble for those around them.

No, if a level is threat level 3 and it becomes infected it should stay at threat level 3. It's based on it's inhabitants and environment. Infected biomes could also change to be more physically dangerous, e.g. infected water infects you.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Except what if the mini-boss altered the players stats to become even stronger, effectively making it hard for players to go back and kill it.

First, the "infected" planets would start in a high level planet, containing tier 5 and above ores, it only spreads by players who are infected. Second, the water and mobs should have a 30% chance to infect you, meaning not all combat results to infection

No, I think there should be very little randomly generated "infected" planets, so that if a player catches the infection he'll spread it while searching for the cure. It could be very much like the "corruption" in Terraria. If an infected player walks over a block it might become an "infected" block and spread. Something like that.

Also, it can be a timed bar. The longer you remain in an area that can infect you, the more that bar depletes. Like I said before, when it reaches zero it you become an "infected." Infection slowly kills you unless you craft a cure, it also makes you spread the infection.

I think that a planet should become infected once 25% of all mobs become infected. second, if a block becomes infected when you walk over it you would ruin everything
