Hello, Neco! I like the look of the train upgrades, myself. Coincidentally, I recently took a screenshot of my train (no upgrades or repairs yet) cause I somehow stumbled on something that looked pretty good to me. And all I was really doing was just emptying my inventory of stuff I picked up on the first planet. Still need a card table or something to fit 'twixt those folding chairs though.
Well a train is built to function on rails and seeing as there are no rails in space, what's the use of sticking to a train's shape? Beyond that, who's not going to use mods to either build their own ship or get a different one? I really can't get behind the space train concept.
Wow. Um. I mean no offense when I say this is not the most aesthetically pleasing thing I've ever seen. Can you give it more horizontal than vertical space, please? I was hyped for Novakid but now I'm not so sure.
I am not a huge fan either - though you can't see the whole picture. It really just looks like the base image + smoke stacks. Train carts + containers generally come in different shapes. Not to mention the issue of long distance walking in a horizontal direction to create equal volume as compared to other species space ships. The starcraft Battleship might be a good concept. Starting off with the head - then the neck in 3 pieces [ cargo containers ] then the last 3 breaking up into a massive engine \ cargo complex. [ Imagine it without the wings ] To give a better idea The front is the "Engine" The next 2 blocks would be container block extensions. The last 4 upgrades is the back major compartment. Where it starts off as the bottom blocks and grows vertically. This removes 2 issues. It is more compact so less travel time. Personally I think this gives the perfect mix of sci-fi and trains.

For me at least having various heights on the train cars makes total sense. In space there are no tunnels or obstructions that would dictate the cars need to be of a lower more uniform profile. (There is no drag in space either so the shape is not relevant to its performance either)
I can see why they'd add some vertical expansion to it. If it was all horizontal then running from one end to the other would take a really long time and that would cause some/many/justme to never do anything with the back cars. I wouldn't want to spend a full minute running to my storage area. My only issue with it is the colors, I'd prefer something less rainbow, like a consistent dark grey with some gold trim or whatever, but that's easy enough to mod.
I'm baffled as to why they're even working on the Novakids already. They were supposed to be one of the closing additions and the game itself is still so far from being completed.
Adding a race is light on programming and heavy on art. So instead of letting the artists sit around and do nothing, they tackled one of the art-heaviest aspects on starbound still left to do, Novakids. There's not just armor and ship sprites needed. NPC's, blocks for dungeons, towns, decoration blocks, object sprites, weapons, outpost container shops, supporting art such as intro cinematics. Also they don't wanna give away the entire game in blogposts, but they're not slacking off at all, otherwise Kawas diff posts wouldn't be so big they make the post editor unusable. As far as the space train goes, I think the cars should be more individualized instead of being all copy and paste. I don't mind it too much, but right now it could be a lot less repetitive.
