Save file documentation?

Is there a thing like a documentation of the save files? If so, I might consider writing a save editor in plain C.

 

There's no comprehensive documentation that I know of. That could be a project you could do.
Otherwise, there are bits and pieces of documentation all over these forums, mostly in reaction to problems that cropped up (e.g., if bug x occurs, change field y in the save file.)
