When he was 7 he became an assistant to an expert street magician who raised him till he was killed when Steel was 15. Steel used his slight of hand and luck in gambling and won his way to fortune but people he got the money got revenge on him and he had to flee.

I dunno, I just see a lot people make their characters stupid and it bothers me somehow.
