Meet the Florans

I just call them that for fun.

I prefer them being called Epi-Bot.

 

Tbh, i'm not digging the architecture. The Florans them selves look great, but the buildings are so brown, almost bland. Sorry if that's rude. Still love the back story though its halrious.

 

These are not true Florans, but rather their jerky cousins that evolved from the Venus Fly-Trap.

Why would an alien race have a name based on an english word? No seriously.

Also I can't help but think "Floor-ans"

 

who says that the names we've been given aren't just the Human / Galactic-Common names?

 

Some already knew. And loved them for it.

Oh Goddesses it's perfect...
PopTops will be the perfect pets as a Floran,
I will even make my penguin slaves serve and take care of them with the highest esteem.

 

I really like their backstory, it makes me want to play them even more.

 

Although I love the blocks and furniture and whatnot, I don't think this will be my choice of race, but that depends. I really want to see the three eyed blue people. And robots.

 

It is a human thinking of the names for the races after all, so any word in any language would be just the same. A 100% made up words would just sound silly, and be confusing. Audfoenl wouldn't be an acceptable race name, even if I told you it was an alien language and the word was pronounced (In human tongue) "Fish" but the meaning of the word was "Bottom left corner of a large object"... It is much easier to just use words that a lot of people are already going to understand so you don't have to explain it.

For example, in Skyrim I never learned (Still haven't) the meaning of the word "Krosis" At first I though it was just the name of the mask named after the Dragon priest that owned it. But then it starts popping up in conversation, without explaining what it meant. Usually the dragon would say the word then the meaning after, but not with Krosis. Yes, it is a made up Dragon word, but it still made me feel confused and annoyed that I am not told the meaning when the word is being used in conversation.

Point was, it is easier to use something that will already be familiar and won't need explanation.

 

Man, I'm just loving the Florans so far. You've definitely put a unique spin on the stereotypical plant race.
