Thread tales is NSFW, 40K is for people who are mature but I'd still say PG-13, Homestuck isn't even NSFW maybe PG-13, Most anime I've seen is PG-13 unless you count the sterotypes as NSFW.

The very definition of NSFW is subjective though.

2. Agreed, NSFW due to probably gore, though just reading on some of the not-so-blood-raining-from-sky parts would probably be fine
3. Eeeeeeeh, kinda teetering, NSFW due to language (School would not like that at all), maybe NSFW for violence? The not-red blood makes it seem not too violent...but then you replace it with red and aaa
4. Somewhat agreed, something like Gurren Lagann wouldn't be NSFW, but, say, Kill La Kill would be. Along those lines, mainly depending on what you're looking at.

 

2) 40K Features excessive violence and foul language.
3) Features violence against the underage, teen drug abuse, violent deaths, dismemberment... The list goes on.
4) Name one anime you've watched that did not have NSFW.

Why are you generalizing animes by the way? And why is everything that has even a sliver of violence or strong language considered NSFW now?

 

Does NSFW refer to just nudity, sexual situations stronger than just references/innuendo, and excessive gore?
And anyway yeah there are quite a few animes that are intended for a PG-13 or higher audience and don't have anything NSFW
There's Madoka Magica, Gurren Lagann like you said, Steins;Gate, Lucky Star (also like you said), and much more
And while most of those animes have mature themes and/or sexual references, nothing severe enough to be seen as NSFW
