Sofa in Chinese means nothing; it's just that the words sound like Sofa in English.

I actually understood it now. I don't think I can explain it but I understood the concept

 

If it helps, 沙发 means Sand Expansion, but we assigned those words to sofa because they sound alike.

Saal, 沙发 does indeed mean sofa in Chinese, but that word is only invented after sofa was imported to China. We gave it that word not because it has meaning, but because it sounds alike.

It's like this: Both words of Chow Mein have a meaning, with chow meaning fried, and Mein meaning noodles. However, Sofa means Sand expansion, which doesn't make sense, but rather was adapted because of how it sounds like Sofa.

In the meantime in Polish: sofa is "sofa" (wow), nothing is "nic"
