Can't Open doors or Talk to people

PLEASE HELP!!!!! Hello! I just started this game and it looks awesome. The music sounds great and looks pleasing. The only problem is I can't seem to talk to people or open doors. I have tried many times to try and talk to people, but it takes so long to actually work that I've spent the whole day trying to talk to people to not even end up doing so. Then when I went back to my house and tried to sleep, I was unable to open the door. Does anyone know what to do? I was really excited to play, but unfortunately, it's not working. Any advice?

 

Redownload the game.
If it doesn't work, do you use SMAPI?
