Bug/Issue Can't Find Pickaxe?

Okay, maybe I'm just an idiot and this is completely normal, but I'm kind of paranoid-

I'm pretty new to this game and decided to upgrade my pickaxe. I woke up a day or two after going to Clint to pay for it, and my regular pickaxe was gone. I looked in all of my chests and inventory trying to find it, but it's nowhere to be found. Does this happen when you upgrade your tools or should I be concerned?

 

Yes this is what happens - you lose the tools for two nights, then you go back him and pick up the new upgraded version.

I fear this will sound condescending, but it's genuine advice.

Make sure to read what the NPCs tell you, so you don't get confused in the future, because this is one of those things that Clint tells you when you try to upgrade your tools.
Of course, there are also things the game doesn't tell you that are convenient to know
