What? No it isn't, its marketing, every game development company does it. Are you shitty that there are closed beta testers right now? Of course not.

The current vernacular for a Beta release (like what we will see for Starbound) is a "soft launch". Furthermore, in theory the Beta for Starbound will more closely resemble a "living Alpha" in that the game will not yet be feature complete, but that enough of the code is (presumably) ready for the spotlight to warrant a huge testing pool. Presumably the actual "real Beta stage" will occur during "Beta"; though some features were previously mentioned to be in not during Beta but at launch. Perhaps the extended development cycle will allow for these to be implemented during Beta so that they do not come in post-launch untested.

 

Let it crash, let it burn, let it format c: (or rm -rf / in case of Linux) but let it out.

 

You mean they're afraid that they will make millions like Notch? Or they are afraid of wonderful community which not only make great mods but is very keen to report any and all bugs they find?

I thought you were only active on TO. Looking through all your posts, it's not surprising that I don't see a lot of you, all you do is post in Homestruck.

All the wonderful community has done (noticeably) so far is bicker and cause problems. So much so that they actually had to intervene to stop the craziness. And that's with the game not even out yet. I'd be skeptical to release anything with potential flaws to this crowd too...

 

Anyone else feel the beta coming WAY closer? The updates seem to be coming at a much greater speed and have more content then before and I feel like the beta is around the corner.
