    Well mechanian are designed based around reploids(megaman x and zero series) which looked alot better than crusader droids, they just looked more like stereotypical robots rather than near human level android.

    Tecarian crusader droids(and their predecessors the Spartan and enforcer droids) are primarily designed around a mixture of medieval knights (early concepts even featured a grate on the faceplate) with both stylized and practical placement of actual armor (armor distribution on the arms and legs is disproportionate to allow thicker plating in high risk areas without compromising mobility), the problem comes from the way the faceplate juts out along it's line of symmetry, it makes perspective drawings tricky at best
