Kri was a blackish wasteland planet. The only ones that ever went there were super criminals sent there to die. At least on purpose. Kri's core was made of a rare type of obsidian, amplifing its gravitational pull to about 50 times what you would expect. The intense gravity caused medical ships, transport ships, and all kinds to come barreling toward its surface. After a heavilly guarded medical ship, containing a deadly Edola-7v virus, and most of its victims, tumbling toward Kri's surface. The fuel tank exploded, mutating the Edola-7v virus, and causing the Human and Apex staff to transmutate, into early Jarrxk. The Jarrxk Adapted, devoloping thicker skin, stronger and bonier jaws, and more menacing behaviour. Like most creatures, the Jarrxk grew more intellegent, and were finally able to reverse-engineer the ships that commonly crashed on the surface of Kri, and so they set out to the stars, to counqer all. -direct from the game's code.

Interesting. So they aren't actually true zombies but zombie like mutants.

They evolved from those mutants, yes into an entirely new species.
