Man i know you don't have time to mod it in but come on we all want to play as skeleton space pirates. Also as far as their biology you could have them be made of a coral like species. Makes since considering their form, reproduction and how they age. They are actually tiny polyps that build a body and as they age the calcium based shells of the polyps remain as individual polyps die and new polyps aren't grown to replace them starting with the outer polyps and slowly moving further and further into the individual before they fianlly die.. Also explains the reproduction and how they coud infect someone as polyps would burrow into their skin and eventually consume all their flesh and use their bones as a base. They are kind of like a Man-O-War Jellyfish as there are a bunch of tiny organisms working together with certain ones have specialized functions: Muscle polyps, bio-luminescent eye polyps, polyps that funtion as a brain, polyps that work as a digestive system ect. Also this allows you to make them come from an Ocean world to fit with the pirate them
This would be a amazing minor race (I personally see it as being better with no player control). Just imagine going onto a derelict ship and finding these. Or getting raided by them on your home planet. So much good stuff you can apply it to.
hmm, i see your points of view guys but your ship could be like a ghostly gallion with this race. The developers are also planning on adding ship extensions, this could make the ghostly gallion ship bigger and more like Blackbeard's and Edward Kenway's. This has a lot of potential if the developers planning works out. If the ship extension idea comes to life, you would be able to have many different compartments with different NPCs spawned in them. For example, a kitchen area for the chef and crew quarters to put random NPCs
