Mining nodes?

Is it just me or does it seem that mining nodes have become very few? Maybe because I am on a newer character and still in the starter planets? Or is it going to be like this the entire time?

 

by node I mean like fining copper ore, iron ore etc etc

 

I am going to assume you are referring to

These gentlemen and their respective sizes. If so, I have noticed they tend to be part of generated planet structures as of 1.0, and yes, not every often spawned underground.
For example, snowy/icy planets will have caves with entrances sealed at the top with ice blocks, remove them and climb down in, and each shaft spawns one of each rock.

If you are referring to vein generation itself, as far as I can tell the higher threat level your planet, the closer to the surface veins of ores will spawn, generally. This according to the wiki and personal experience.
