Low fps unless in windowed mode really tiny. help?

    I don't have to bad of a computer and i heard starbound could be played on a 10year old system, but i can't seem to play the game without it being really laggy and stuttery like around 15-20 fps. i can run skyrim on high just fine and terraria runs as smooth as butter. it does run at a playable fps if i make it tiny in windowed mode like the size of a smartphone and can't say thats to great as i'd like to play in full screen

    Prossesor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core 2.60GHz
    memory: 4.00GB
    Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series

    i'm not super tech savy so if theres anything else needed just ask. hope to be playing soon :I thanksss
