Item disappeared for good when character dies

    I found a flamethrower in a sewer dungeon early game and then got killed by a bird. When I went back to the site of my death and collected all my items, my flamethrower was missing. I died in an enclosed space, so I really couldn't have missed it. Can someone explain this?

    i've had times where an item is dropped in such a way that at the start it is next to a block then clips through the block. unless it despawned from timeout, try mining around your death site

    It could be buried in your inventory and you just haven't noticed it yet, that's happened to me a few times
