Right now if you set an item detector to look for rails they only look for the item version, unlike other items that still register after being placed, rails do not. If you add this functionality, the rail system will be greatly improved. I had a design for an elevator that would be able to change position based on button press, but that wasn't posible due to this limitation, which is how I discovered this possible oversight.
