How the Beta is going to work

Interestingly, it is possible to ask directly from the developer?

 

That's pretty exciting! I love being able to help out a game and try to break it every way possible!

 

It does say on the humble bundle page "Thank you for supporting Starbound. When the beta becomes available you can download it here!"

Which would suggest their intention was to go DRM free for the beta.
Steam is very convenient though.

 

*drools* woot! is all I can say. Also open beta is a smart move, might get a ton more sales that way. (I already pre-ordered myself)

I almost rocketed through the roof at work and exploded in the sky when I read beta. Can't wait i'll be apart of this from start to finish!

 

I'm down for stage 1 it's always nice to be part of a great games history and see crazy bugs before they get patched.

 

I will definitely be playing all the way from stage 1! i love helping to find buugs so they can be fixed! You guys are amazing and I can't thank you enough for the game! I have been following it a long time and finally get to see the wait pay off!

 

Not really. Even if the majority of people preferred a humble bundle release, they wouldn't be updating several times a day. It's simply that the steam API allows updating without much effort involved, otherwise they wouldn't waste their time.

Somebody could ask the question on twitter or IRC, and hope that Tiy responds. I don't use either.

 

I don't suppose the beta will be on steam will it? o.o...I'm a bit neurotic when it comes to websites and downloading games from them. xD never sure they will work when i try to download. Usually I prefer Steam or CD's/DVD's

So i've got the Humble email, but how's this going to work when the beta is ready? will we get sent a link to download it or will be able to just download from the starbound website? Just making sure so i'm not bumbling around when it's time.
