i think there will be 20000

 

Procedural generation means that it will probably be much higher than that. I'm not sure how apt this comparison is, but borderlands literally had millions of guns, so probably something along those lines.

edit - according to Gearbox, it has over 17,750,000 guns.

But doesnt that mean that a lot of them will be similar to others but with a slightly different effect?
Not that im complaining. Even if there are similarities there will still prolly be a lot of gun types.

 

Well yeah, I mean there are only so many differences you can make before they become similar even without procedural generation.

And that is ONLY the guns we are thinking of. There will be melee weapons (i vaguely remember a laser axe in a screenshot) and prolly some other interesting sci-fi things.

 

Also shields, armor, etc. It could actually have more than borderlands actually, just because starbound has more item categories.

 

I wonder if there will be items specific for tamed pets?
Like armor for them and such.
