The problem isn't Lesbians having a nice time, the problem is having it in the game. I don't want either "nice times" in the game.

Actually, both me and another person noticed that it looks like lesbian sex.

Thing is, you're still jumping the gun here. Forums and fandom are one thing, but what is actually to be found within the game (which still hasn't been given an age rating as of my last reply) is a whole different can of worms, so I doubt that Chucklefish would go around and alienate a younger audience by proxy through parents concerned about sex in the game. I do however find it utterly ridiculous how something as unnatural as killing creatures, people and other sentient creatures for profit, rather than sustenance in a game or movies is so much more acceptable than human, or in this case alien sexuality. I could quote a certain author on this, but what's the point.

    Edit:
Oh my, based on which depiction? I don't suppose it has something to do with a certain scene in Requiem for a Dream, since that is undoubtedly the most authentic depiction of consensual lesbian butt-rubbing action available, right?

    Edit2:
And on that note, you sure know what you don't want in the game, but what about what the developers and artists want in the game? Now this doesn't mean they would be about to add anything even remotely sexual, whether overtones or undertones in the gameplay to begin with, but what if they did? Sure they might get some concerned people voice out how they were sold on a somewhat different image of the game and they might lose some customers, but they might also gain some. It is the responsibility of the buyer, especially when considering games, movies or such meant for their children to make sure of the contents and their suitability.

I can't think of having seen any promises by the developers as for the intended age-range for this game in the first place, so if anyone else has found something to hint at this, then quotes or links would be nice.

Sure, fighting is an unnatural thing, and I will admit the video-gaming genre has quite a problem with violence, but sexuality in gaming has a far bigger impact than violence.
Every gamer has played a violent video game, and I don't believe many at all turn into crazy mass murderers. Porn in video games, however, can lead to a person watching porn, having sex, and even rape. Essentially it belittles woman by making them a toy. Say whatever you want about violence, but sexuality is definitely worse imo.

Sure the developers can add whatever they like, but that doesn't make it a good thing. I'm discussing the morals of this, not the actually game.

Ok, you say it will not be in the game, but then why did Tiy ask? Why did they create concept art?
Sure you probably won't see sex explicitly in the game, but perhaps hidden in the lore as well as little jokes and perhaps in books.

I'm just trying to say, I don't care how they have sex, I don't want it in the game, and sure they can do whatever the hell they want, but that doesn't make it right.

Perhaps it is simply humor from another culture that I cannot understand, either because of my own culture or my religion.

Fan art that happened to have been humorously featured in the July edition of Starbound Chronicles. Since the can was already open on the forum side, there's little harm to be done by discussing these themes with others.

On the subject of any games or such having any significant effect on children, you're shifting the blame to the game developers for having such themes in games that have been clearly marked for audiences of certain age. However, they do often end up being played by kids, I don't doubt that... awareness of these issues as well as the responsibility still falls to the adults buying those games, or the adults who should be supervising their children's use of the internet and while it may not always be viable, there have been multiple methods for chaperoning and limiting searches etc. Playing and reviewing games before letting your children play them is the rational thing to do... and there is very little evidence for games or such actually affecting the way we perceive things or making rapists out of children who play sexually themed games. I myself am an example of someone who grew up alongside the development of the personal computer and of the internet and played games that were not only adult themed, but overtly sexually themed, like Duke Nukem 3D. You're not giving kids enough credit if you think they can't identify between reality and fantasy, or else there is something horribly wrong with their upbringing or psyche to begin with if they're not able to balance out whatever sexual tones can be found anywhere from advertisement and TV to games, which are usually the most closely regulated form of media when it comes to content and level of violence etc.

Unfortunately, morals have nothing to do with your knee-jerk reaction and I am merely questioning whether you're actually aware of the consequences of such misplaced moral arguments that you should be having with your children regarding proper understanding of concepts like sexual pleasures and any implications of reproduction in general and not on a game fan forum for a game that is a work in progress. I could understand questioning whether this will ever become an ingrained part of the game's lore, but to outright condemn it without questioning is... questionable to say the least.

It's not a culture thing at all, but that of tolerance and understanding the proper context surrounding these things. Butt-rubbing during a dance party for humans with clothes on, sure fine, no problem. Butt-rubbing in the same setting by an alien race that doesn't reproduce that way, meh! Same thing when humorously implied to be an act of reproduction by sentient species of plants... THAT'S PORN! No, that's context.

Do you, or your children understand that plant pollen allergy is the equivalent of being allergic to plant sperm? Context again... Reproduction can be something beautiful and intimate, it can be something humorous under certain circumstances, it can be something unpleasant when you think of it as an exchange of bodily fluids, it can be a combination of all, yet it's part of what humans are.

Edit: Have you by any chance already forgotten what it was like for you to be a child or a teenager? At what ages you figured out the purpose and function of what is found between your legs? At what age did your peers in school, friends and such start talking about sexual themes and while some may have well become somewhat deviant, how many did not? How many live happy and balanced lives not because they were repressed from having learned about sexuality in a non-biased way, without making it to be a dirty and sinful act?

Edit2: When it comes to objectification of women, it is not as simple a matter as to blame games or movies, when there are multiple issues, like lazy upbringing in these busy times and the burden of educating kids about anything has been shifted from parents to schools where the subject of sex-ed among other things has been under attack to begin with in many places due to... reasons.

    Edit3:
Had to take some extra time to collect my thoughts on this part and here they are:
It is very telling to consider depictions of sexuality no matter how innocent in this context and the supposed objectification of women as something worse than objectifying the lives of all sentient beings regardless of their gender or what they represent by using their lives as a means to gain wealth, fame and status, when neither are exactly acceptable in reality without consent. But there lies the entire point of fiction, the fact that it is indeed something that is to be set aside from reality into its own pocket within our minds. For a person to not understand this distinction is indicative of psychological issues worse than any violence or sex in media alone could trigger.

Porn, or depictions of sexual acts in any media, unless depictions of real violent or non-consensual acts (for obvious reasons) is a much better choice for venting out frustrations than acting out repressed desires towards other real people. Incidents of violence and sexual violence have actually decreased overall and there is a clear distinction between how social inequality causes issues and how certain incidents of violence have been associated with violent computer games by social media. Before that it was TV and rock & roll culture, before that it was radio and hippies, etc. It is quite true that there are both decent and horribly bad examples of porn out there, where objectification is the least of the problems. What is common in all of this, is that they all cater to certain types of desires and fetishes and that there is a demand for this in all walks of life.

It's all about how you approach that inevitability in life when adolescents learn of these things, it's all about how you and society paints the image of sexuality and matters of consent therein and how obvious the clash between what media depicts and how you censor it is. The more you try to cover children'ss eyes without explaining things, the more they will question and doubt about what it is that causes their parents to cover their eyes and ears going "laa laa laa, nothing to see here!"

What does make a good thing? Is it not a joke that can be understood two ways in a movie or a game when the child sees one thing and you as an adult see more than the child does? Would you cover their eyes and ears just because you have a better understanding, thus denying them the chance of seeing the other side when they too grow up?

Sorry for making an essay out of this, I have no excuse, so sorry if I badger anyone with this :badger:

Why can't a dude and a girl ever just rub butts without SOMEBODY breaking it down into a lecture about morals?

I mean, who CARES if that's how they mate. They're PLANTS. When's the last time you ever saw pollination on the wild and had to turn your virgin eyes away?

The correct answer is "never", but I would have also accepted "What? I didn't hear you. I was busy playing MONSTER HUNTER."

If your talking about the comic, then they aren't the same gender. The green Floran clearly has his shirt off, which you can tell is a male chest, and the red Floran is wearing a shirt; also, if you look close enough, you can see that the red Floran has breasts.

Fighting and sexuality are both natural things... As a society, we have "civilized" fighting and it's called debate. Debate over ideas in order to get the best one out there.

Sexuality is overly sheltered from kids nowadays. To a point of ridiculous. We can have insane violence in movies but if someone grinds for two seconds with clothes on someone burn that movie with fire, it's destroying our children's morals!!

There's a movie on the rating system of movies called "This Movie is Not Yet Rated", pretty good watch.

My point is that I had the experience of seeing friends sheltered from sex/violence and I have first hand experience. It doesn't help. If anything, it makes the kids confused and makes the whole situation much worse than it could've been.

That movie was and may still be available on liveleak and it is indeed a good watch, as it gives some insight into the double standards found within the movie rating system. Movies without ratings won't be accepted by any mainstream media outlet, meaning that a biased committee controls which movies get to be presented, or has to be modified before acceptable, if accepted at all even after removal of arbitrarily "offending" scenes of usually sexual nature.

I too have seen the differences between people who have been raised with a moderate and healthy education (not immersion by any stretch) of human sexuality and the responsibilities it entails, contrasted by those who shut their eyes and ears when anything "filthy" like that was even mentioned. Need I mention which ones were raising a child before their 20's, working in a low income job? Anyhow, there's a huge difference between informing children and preparing them to have the capacity to handle these issues before they are suddenly presented with peer pressure, raging hormones and an opportunity to act upon those deeply animal instincts ingrained within almost all of us versus immersing them with porn. Need I even say that kids almost always find a way to do just that regardless. When there are needs and desires, there's a means to be found. Controlling those needs and desires with fear, misinformation or dismissal and censorship will ill equip youngsters to handle the truth once they are free to explore world on their own and a culture shock is what it often ends up with.

Good grief I can be so long-winded :notworthy:

I heard about this a long time ago, and I love it.

The Glitch reproduce by literally building a child together.

I wonder if Hylotl even have sex, since female fish and amphibians lay eggs first and then the eggs get fertilized by the male.

I hope Avians get their children delivered by a giant stork, like in the beginning of Dumbo.

Of all the things Starbound could be enabling, it's fetishism?

I'm not sure this is what I signed up for when I preordered.

    :lod:

Keep this in your fan fiction blogs and deviant art entries but for all that's sane, don't make it an actual context within the game.

There are sharks that give live birth, so I don't find it too far fetched that Hylotl would have the same, though considering boobage, they could be closer to marine mammals like dolphins. Considering how messy a business laying umpteen eggs in open waters or perhaps a pond they'd dig specifically for the purpose can be, with constant care being required and still having a large portion of spawn being lost to all sorts of attrition, it just seems too impersonal, undignified and uncertain a method of giving birth for them.

Who knows, maybe there is an allusion to the stork story hidden somewhere in the avian lore ^_^
