Yep, America to American, Spain to Spaniard, because English is wierd.
And Spainian sounds wrong.

 

I always said Spanish.

Reason? Thats not criticism

 

Spanish is correct too.

 

Spanish is slightly different, a different part of speech.
You can say "you're a Spaniard?" and it'd be fine to say "you're Spanish?"
But it doesn't make sense to say "you're a Spanish?" or "you're Spaniard?"
In this case "Spanish" is an adjective and Spaniard is a noun.
Yeah, English is wierd.
