because you NEVER EVER! put a radioactive element into a specialized reactor. most nuclear reactors nowadays are specialized, made to only accept one form of radioactive fuel, this allows them to become super stable to the point you would need to do something like what you did to cause them to go unstable, it also allows them to be far more efficient and powerful.
