I personally feel beedrill is more fitting.

 

In my opinion, it is not a 2D adventure game without bats annoying the living hell out of you. Take a look at Terraria or Hammerwatch. It wouldn't feel the same (at least for Terraria) without bats.

I think the fly looks more like the robot-flies from Megaman ZX.

 

Of course bats are annoying little shits, why not?
