    Good choice! Mass Effect is long and deep game (with good action elements)

    If, however, you are afraid of games feeling too outdated to be pleasurable, I'd suggest you start with ME2.

    I can still manage to play games older than the original Mass Effect, so I should manage. Besides, I've heard good things about it.

    Pity I may never get the third game. I don't really want to get into Origin.

    I can understand what you not wanting to deal with Origin, but after putting in so much time into ME1 and ME2, it would be a waste not to finish the story off with ME3.

    I agree with FrankBiscuit (mmm... biscuits...), you should not miss ME3! It had bad reputation, but with the free Extended Cut DLC, it's really good! I must admit that I played all three on the PS3, so I didn't find Origin invasive at all.

    We'll see how I go with the first two games. The main issue I have with Origin is that it isn't Steam, and isn't really necessary unless you want to play one of about four big games that are Origin-exclusive.
