RELEASED Charcoal (updated 2013-12-11)

Adds a coal alternative. Smelting 5 unrefined wood gives 1 charcoal, which gives as much fuel as coal.
Recipes requiring coal all have a duplicate for charcoal since I couldn't find a cleaner way to do this.

Requires no config file editing.

Which directory do you drop it in?

 

I'm not going to try this, but it is a very good idea. Mostly for people who travel alot.

This mod is packaged as described there. Or you can drop the contents of the "charcoal" directory in your mod asset directory.

 

So essentially what this mod does is turn 5 fuel into 2 fuel.

...balance seems nonexistent.

When do you ever want to give yourself LESS fuel?

 

Wood is no longer able to be used as fuel.

 

Wood is no longer a fuel source as of v. Annoyed Koala. The real life conversion ratio of wood into charcoal is 5:1 so I used that.

 

10 wood will be smeltable to 1 coal in the next patch so this won't be needed anymore.

 

Where'd you hear that? Would help to calm the forums current "Bring back wood" group.

Hmmm...didn't wood use to be worth 1 fuel? Or was that unbalanced? The way I think about it, my impression is that you make more than one coal from a piece of wood

 

So will this still work even w the update to indignant koala? 10-1 is not too bad but I'd prefer the 5-1 ratio this mod offers. Travelling for me is one of my favorite things about this game, but I am loathed to use coal for anything but torches and other essentials. As mentioned the travel/exploration aspect of the game is my main attraction to it.

 

Assuming 1 unit of charcoal weighs the same as 1 unit of wood, 5:1 matches the real conversion ratio.

Should work fine after updates, but new recipes that need coal won't be added because I won't be updating this anymore. The 10:1 conversion to coal keeps me happy.
