Zombies?

Zombies aren't "overused" or "Overdone", zombie apocalypses and survival games are. In games like Terraria (le gasp! you said the T word!) for example where zombies are an early level mob then it's fine. They're slow, easy to predict and somewhat satisfying to kill. I'm not going to name any of the "bad" games, but unoriginal survival games where you like survive waves or scavenge junk or whatever are indeed boring now. I wouldn't count Left 4 Dead or Nazi Zombies as overused though. Even though they're not the first they're somewhat unique and sorta first for their gameplay. Having a zombie infested planet in Starbound might not be so bad if it's delivered properly, though. Also I do agree with the "plague" style zombies being kinda dumb like Day Z (I still liked the movie though. Not the story or the characters but some of the events. Hated the bikes. S-spoilers!).

Now if there was a zombie infested planet but what's causing them to rise is disgusting micro-organisms that temporarily reanimate the corpse (this actually exists on earth... *shiver) AND at the same time is being combated by anti-infestation robots that can't tell the difference between you and the the "zombies" because it runs off a database of what should be alive on the planet and what is an unknown threat (you fall into that category because you're also an alien to the planet) THEN there's some context that (I think) is somewhat original and isn't all that stale. But then again trying that hard just to make it okay to add zombies seems a bit excessive.

Do not click this link if you have a weak stomach like me (almost lost it from just seeing the first 2 pictures or so ugh.) It's the "zombie" organism I was talking about. I have no idea how I know this exists and honestly I wish I didn't.

to be honest i would like to see one planet out of no telling how many to have zombies on it just the one planet because it would be totally unexpected and random I'd probably make a base on a planet near by just so i could go and tease them every now and then

The whole zombie craze needs to get dropped, FAST. It's overused, overdone, overhyped, and unoriginal now.

Bull, the scariest moment of that not really scary movie was a jump scare with a flying snake. Just before Jaden Smith enters the cave with the magma in it...

Traditional zombies? Perhaps not. However I would not mind seeing a more interesting take on zombies like what the Fallout games managed with the Ghouls.

While I agree with this, I don't see that happening. Considering Starbound has "no magic" so to speak the idea of "rise from the grave" zombies seems unlikley. Virus or parasite zombies would be more logical.

Oh! I was kind of, er, fuzzy with that post. What I meant was which of them I preferred. I can obviously understand that the zombies I think is the best zombies wouldn't make any sense in a science fiction game.

I don't really see why Starbound cant have zombies.

The main idea behind a zombie invasion theme is the "invasion" part. Tons over tons of that creature that keep comming back for more and make more meat shield out of your dead. You dont need that to be a "zombie" in the end. Take a berserk Von Neumann* machine and you can have pretty much the same result without the overused setting.

*Von Neumann machine : Self-replicating machines, a class of machines that can replicate themselves. Ask wikipedia for more info.

I am also sure that everyone knows about Cordyceps, especially after the whole "The Last of Us" game. =/ Nature does some amazing things. And Science is proving more science fiction to be science fact. Diseases are normally transferred from animal to human. It is not a far stretch to believe that one day a simple fungus could make the same leap.

That would be totally fun bad
The idea of zombies in starbound would be fun, as long it is not only human zombies an be novakid zombies, floran zombies, etc And an zombie invation planet would be even better, hordes of enemies and you create an shelter to hide from them... Or die

Planets infested with toxic fungus, a mutated virus, or even mentally insane criminals dumped there are something that seems so exiciting to me! All on one planet to. I would hunt for those planets and fight until they rip open my chest cavity. This has to happen.

And Bingo was his name-o! The idea of a sentient person de-evolving into a mindless mass of flesh, bone, and teeth is the true horror that is the zombie.

    Zombies just make me yawn...
If there are interessting grumpy and horrifying Monsters in the depths it's total enough. A good old scary Dungeon Monster with Big scary Eyes, claws and prickles!

Is there any possibilitie to catch Monsters and jail them for a big Monsterarium?
    That would be nice!
