How about the Anaconda series? or Snakes on a Plane? or How about the many movies and stories where Medusa was used. Doesn't have to be an Apocalypse, and if we want to go that far, i never saw the movie After-Earth but i bet there was probably at least something in the movie that was snake related. An entire planet evolves to murder humans and no apex predator like a snake? Doubtful =) The real point is, IT HAS ALL BEEN DONE BEFORE. You can't deny that. Even Hollywood grabs at straws these days to come up with original ideas.

I saw the movie and there was no snake or snake related animal in it.
Nor any reptile at all I think, which sucked :(

I dislike the idea of "zombies" as in the cliche "Braaaiinnnsss" idea. But I wouldnt mind seeing soulless husks of former sentient humanoid creatures. Think the husks from Mass Effect, or perhaps infested-terrans from Starcraft. I dislike zombies because they are so overused, but former Apex indoctrinated by an Alien species? It NEEDS to be implemented. Or so help me god, I will make my the mod myself :p

The husks from Mass Effect freaked me out...
    Starbound must have them.

I am actually very VERY surprised to hear that. I didnt want to see the movie because i have been burned by too many movies with only 1 or 2 actors. Same reason why i will not go see that movie Gravity, no matter how much my friends say it is good. :yeahhhh: You can call me stuborn, but i will wait until it is out on video and they spent money for the DVD/Bluray. When Hollywood redeems itself beyond ripping off books and remakes i may start buying movie tickets again.
Still... "Snakes... why did it have to be snakes." - Indiana Jones. =)

I like zombies. I hope they're put into every game, just so the "they're overdone nOOO!" people have a heart attack.

In all seriousness, I don't see what the problem is with zombies. Especially in a game like this.. Is "they're overdone!" even a valid argument when they'd be just 1 monster among who knows how many different combinations? It's not like putting zombies in the game makes it a zombie game..

Like someone said earlier though, I hope they're the creepy, bloody xenomorph kind. If they're in at all. If not, I'm sure there will be some other kind of slow-moving attack in large numbers kind of monster-type by release.

Muscles don't "die", and second: Zombies are only dead in the sense that they have lost their ability to respond to anything aside from their basic needs.

You can actually make a muscle work by jolting it with electricity. So as long as the brain can send electricity or SOMETHING can send signals to the muscle, it will work.

To chime in on this tangent, I recall the Digimon series and games had a Digimon that was basically a turd with arms. Think it was called Sukamon. And it threw crap at you. I remember the Digimon game that was out long ago when the PS1 was still pretty new and it had several of these.

Zombies are far too overused these days. I think Starbound will do fine without.

first off, I'm a fan of zombies before all this "overused" hype thang started, they are my favorited "monsters"! and I love that people start to like the survival zombie mix!

second, what is the problem with you guys? overused really? this is the perfect game to legalise zombie lore! one planet of the wubillion planets can have zombies, so everybody is happy, you like zombies, go for em, you dont? go to another planet!

i do not know how i feel about zombies anymore.

if they do manage to make it into the game i hope the devs figure out how to make them more...scary and different than the zombies we see today.

all in all? i hope they don't throw them into the game.

Okay, I love Zombies and most of the different lore behind them. But in my opinion Zombies don't need to be in Starbound. And when I say that, I don't mean it to sound like I'm saying that zombies are overused, like I said, I love zombies. But if there is going to be a zombie-like creature in Starbound, I'd want it to be something different. Something like the husks from Mass Effect, or the Necromorphs from Dead Space, or even failed science experiments like the FEV Subjects and Centaurs from Fallout, those things creeped me the crap out. But Zombies, no.

Zombies are a bit over-saturated these days. However, alternate ideas would be somewhat similar without actually "going there." For example, a planet whose inhabitants have become mutants would be zombie-esque without necessarily jumping on the zombie train. It would be kinda cool to find an infected world, research and discover a cure, and be able to cure the inhabitants. Of course they would be very grateful once cured so rewards and other helpful outcomes could follow curing them.

Also I like the idea of derelict space vessels carrying "plague victims" that you could board, and interesting story ensues...

But zombies per se? As in living dead people? Perhaps not in Starbound.

I wouldn't mind zombies. Not on every planet for sure, But a special event planet or something? Sure.
