The following are a series of smaller side quests one might encounter at random, with different quest type variations and different objective types. The goal here is to create a large list of randomly accessible missions at various difficulty levels accessible at different points in the game. These quests are randomly repeatable, may show up at any time, and can be acquired in different methods as specified

    NPC BASED QUESTS

Introduction: You arrive on a brand new planet, and encounter a marooned old space pirate. He asks you to recover the pieces to his spaceship so he can rebuild it, and in return he'll offer you his space pirate booty. The parts are scattered throughout the surface and can also be found on random aliens.

Details: Arriving on the planet, you meet Marooned Space Pirate. He looks like he wishes to speak with you.

Marooned Space Pirate: "Y'arr! Welcome to me planet, ye scurvy space-scrabbler! I be shipwrecked on yonder planet for uncountable cycles! I miss me pirate crew, and me pirate adventures, but most of all, I miss me pirate ship!"

-- Where's your ship? -- "Yarr, it be off in space, but I can still find 'er. A captain can always find his ship!"
-- You smell.. -- "That be the product of not havin' a shower in twenty odd years, lad/lass!"

Marooned Space Pirate: "Now, in order to get me ship, I need me shuttle rebuilt. I just need some supplies and the scattered parts o' me ship. It be dashed across the surface, and some o' the local creatures stole off with the lot o'er."

-- I can help you get your parts. -- "Awesome! Here's a list of e'rething ye need to return to me. See ye soon, lad/lass!"
    -- I'm really busy right now, sorry. -- "Y'arr... Well, I won't be goin' anywhere, lad/lass."

If you accept the quest, you get the following item: "A Pirate Captain's Shopping List"

A Pirate Captain's Shopping List: "1x Matter Converter Drive, 4x Hull Shielding Walls, 1x Oversized Tinted Cockpit Glass, 10x Probably Reliable Bonding Agent, 1x NaviComputer, 4x NaviComputer DataLogs, 1x Cushy Pilot's Seat"

The Matter Converter Drive, Hull Shielding Walls, Oversized Tinted Cockpit Glass, Cushy Pilot's Seat and NaviComputer are all scattered around the planet and able to be clicked on recover them. The Probably Reliable Bonding Agent and Navicomputer DataLogs require killing random hostile enemies on the planet. Once all the items have been recovered, they can be returned to the Marooned Space Pirate.

Marooned Space Pirate: "Avast ye scurvy stardogs! Is that the smell of me ol cushy seat I detect on ye?"

-- I have all your parts. -- "Ye did what I couldn', lad/lass! This be all the parts! It'll only take me a short while to get off this accursed planet! Me plunder is yours, for savin' me from a fate worse than.. well, a fate worse than being stuck on this accursed planet!"
-- I'm still looking. -- "They should be all about the planet, lad/lass."

For completing the quest, the Pirate will give you a Space Pirate Booty Key. He is standing near a chest labelled "Pirate Booty". Opening this chest will reveal a small amount of treasure/currency, and a random low level piece of moderate quality equipment.

Introduction: The player arrives on a rocky type planet. Along the surface, they find an Alien Prospector. He offers the player a quest to clear out the caverns below the surface so that he can survey the planet for special mineral types. In exchange, he'll provide the player with a random reward of resources from his cache as payment. The player has to go into the underground areas of the world and kill aliens beneath the surface to acquire 10 of the following:

Dusty Geodes for low level, Sparkly Geodes for mid level, Shining Geodes for higher level and Eternal Geodes at the highest level of the quest.

Details: When you reach the planet, near one of the surface caverns is an alien prospector with a green mining hat.

Alien Prospector: "Greetings Fellow Sentients! I am currently surveying this site for a possible mining expedition in the near future for my overseers. However, I only have my mining blaster and not much else, and the caverns below are infested with horrid creatures! I don't suppose you'd be able to help me, huh?"
-- What needs doing? -- "Oh good! I'm glad to see you're interested! We could make a business deal out of this!"
-- I don't know... -- "I appeal to you as a fellow sentient being! I will even offer a reward for your service!"

Alien Prospector: "If you bring back 10 geode samples from the surface below, I'll be able to provide an accurate reading to my superiors. In exchange, I'll offer you some of the other metals I've acquired from recent expeditions! Sound like a deal?"

-- Sure! -- "Alright! Most of the creatures in the tunnels below like to munch on the rocks. Getting samples from them should be easy."
-- No thank you. -- "Oh.. well.. I guess I'll just wait for the next sentient to show up, maybe she'll be nicer."

The Geodes spoken of by the Prospector have a sizable chance (1 in 3 chance) of dropping from any aliens below the surface of the planet. On a low threat level planet, Dusty Geodes will drop. At a moderate level, Sparkly Geodes will drop. At higher levels, Shining Geodes will drop, and at the highest difficulty, Eternal Geodes will drop.

Returning to the Prospector yields the following.

Alien Prospector: "Do you have my samples? My masters are waiting anxiously, and if I take too long, they'll just blow the planet up and cart the rubble off to a processing factory with us on it!"

-- Yes, I found them! -- "Oh good! The planet is saved or some such! Here, take what you will from my cache."
-- Um.. try to hold them off? -- "What do you think I've been doing? They're debating whether or not to fire up the planet mining laser at the moment, you should probably hurry."

After completing the mission, the Prospector will hand the player a Dusty, Sparkly, Shining, or Eternal Cache, which has a random assortment of appropriate level materials within it.

Introduction: Upon arriving on a new planet, the player is greeted by a Terrified Crewman. The rest of the planet is regularly generated. Upon speaking to the Crewman, the player discovers that his team was transported on-planet for a research mission, but was ambushed by... darkness. With red eyes. The day and night cycles on the world seemed completely out of whack, and the darkness would appear seemingly out of nowhere, heralded by hideous growling noises. The crew slowly dwindled down, and now he's the only one left. He desperately begs the player to defend him from the darkness. The player must build a defensive shelter and prepare for the oncoming assault of the Bloodshadow Wolves.

    Details:

Upon arriving on planet, the player sees a Terrified Crewman. Speaking to the NPC yields the following conversation:

Terrified Crewman: "By the Starlight, you're a sight for sore eyes! Please, I'm begging you, take me on your ship, save me!"

-- Um, what? -- "Sorry.. I'm babbling, and they could be here any moment! Let me just... compose myself."
-- Whoa, back off. -- "I.. I'm sorry. I'm just terrified! You have to help me!"

Terrified Crewman: "I was part of a team that was placed on-world for study purposes. Soon after arriving, there were these blood curdling howls.. then the darkness came. There.. were glowing red eyes, growls and snarls everywhere! And it took them.. the darkness took them..."

-- What do you mean? -- "The Darkness! Some kind of creature. At first we thought that the world had abnormal day and night cycles, but it became apparent that these strange creatures actually swallow light up in their presence!"
-- Get ahold of yourself, man! -- "I'm telling the truth! There are these... creatures.. they hunt in a massive pack! They darken the skies with their approach.."

Terrified Crewman: "Please, you have to protect me and get me out of here. I can hear their howling again! They're coming... you have to protect me!"

After the end of the dialogue, the player gets a 5 minute timer to build a shelter. When a suitable structure is built, the Crewman will wander inside and stay there until the event is over. At the 2 minute remaining mark, the sky starts to get darker and howling can be heard in the distance.

The event starts when the clock hits zero. 25 Bloodshadow Hunters, 10 Bloodshadow Howlers, and 5 Bloodshadow Fangbeasts spawn for every player present. They continue to spawn until the entire pool of Bloodshadows is exhausted, or until the Terrified Crewman is slain. When the last Bloodshadow is slain, the sky darkens further and a sick howl is heard as the Bloodshadow Alpha appears. The wolves will actively target players before NPCs.

Each type of Bloodshadow has a Darkening Aura. This effect stacks, making it darker and darker when more than one wolf is in one spot.

    Datalog Entries and notes:

Bloodshadow Hunter: "Vicious and bloodthirsty, even the weakest of the Bloodshadow wolves are honed hunters. These strange beasts swallow up light and have the ability to phase in and out of existence for short distances, seemingly allowing them to teleport to assault prey."
Notes: Low HP, Low armor. Darkening Aura has low range, slight effect. Takes ~ 5 wolves to turn a spot black. Has the ability to teleport a short distance to attack prey who likes to hide behind things and shoot.

Bloodshadow Howler: "By some dark will of an all-consuming evil entity, these wolves have the ability to fire off void blasts when they howl, which cut through even the strongest of armor. While they aren't as agile as the regular hunters, their Void Howl makes them a deadly foe."
Notes: Low HP, moderate armor. Darkening Aura has a long range, moderate effect. Takes ~3 wolves to turn a spot black. When unable to hit a target in melee, they use a Void Howl ability, which spits a void bolt at their target. Void bolt destroys blocks in a 1 block radius from the impact site.

Bloodshadow Fangbeasts: "The most deadly hunters of the Bloodshadow Pack are known as Fangbeasts. Fiercely fast, with deadly claws and an even more deadly bite, these beasts are able to leap to great heights and are absolute terrors to see. The problem then is even being able to see them - they have a powerful aura of darkness that makes it difficult to pinpoint them in combat."
Notes: Moderate HP, Moderate armor. Darkening Aura has a moderate range, high effect. Takes ~2 wolves to turn a spot black. These beasts move fast, and are able to jump great heights in order to climb tall structures to get at their prey. If they are unable to reach prey, they will start tearing blocks down to get at their prey.

Bloodshadow Alpha: "The leader of the Bloodshadow Pack. The very sky darkens in this creature's presence. It holds the ability to summon more wolves right out of the void of darkness to assault any adversaries. Its howl stuns opponents so that it can fire a concentrated blast of void energy at the target. Massive claws are able to cut through metal making escape from this foe nearly impossible."
Notes: Boss monster. High HP, Moderate armor. Darkening Aura has massive range, moderate effect. Has the ability to summon a random set of three wolves periodically (Once every 20 seconds or so, 65% chance to spawn Hunter, 25% chance to spawn Howler, 10% chance to spawn Fangbeast.) Periodically it will let loose an immense howl that stuns the player for 3 seconds. It then fires a rain of Void Bolts into the sky which then rain down around the Alpha's target. Every minute or so, it will use the ability Void Claw, where it will teleport around the screen rapidly 5 times, clawing randomly after each teleport, before returning to its original location.

Defeating the Alpha turns the sky back to its normal color, and the Crewman wants to speak to you!

Terrified Crewman: "Oh wow! We're alive! You actually did it! That's simply amazing... I don't have much to offer, but I don't exactly have a crew anymore.. If you'd have me, I'd love to work for you and join your crew! Here, I managed to whip something up that I used to protect myself at points.. I don't know if it actually worked, but it might be of use to you!"

Reward: Terrified Crewman becomes a friendly NPC for your crew, and the player receives Shadow Field Generator

Shadow Field Generator: "This strange device seems to use the same void technology found naturally in the Bloodshadow Wolf Pack. It drains light away from around it. It has multiple settings, each draining battery power more to produce a stronger darkness field."
Notes: The Shadow Field Generator is mostly a cosmetic toy item. When activated, it slowly drains battery power and slightly darkens the area around the player. When turned to moderate, it drains battery a little faster, but produces a wider, darker field of darkness. On High setting, it drains power rapidly, but is capable of turning a large area black.

Introduction: While speaking to random NPCs on your homeworld, one of them will offer to tell the player a story. He says that in a long time past, he was the ruler of a great world-kingdom. However, he fell in love with a beautiful young woman. He tried everything to win her over, before finally even offering his kingdom. She took the kingdom, then ordered him shipped off-world. He still loves the girl, and wants your assistance in using his last-resort: a love potion!

    Details:

The player encounters an NPC on his homeworld and receives the quest. The dialogue starts like this:

NPC: "Hello there. Not many people stop and talk these days. I don't suppose you'd be up for a bit of a tale, huh? Ah, sure you are. "

NPC: "When I was a younger man, I hailed from a world where I was called King. I treated my subjects justly and they served me loyally. However, a King needs a Queen just as the day needs the sun! I fell in love with a beautiful young lady who proved to be the bane of my existence."

-- What happened? -- "Well, I set my sights on her of course, and didn't back down!"
-- Yeah, they'll do that to ya. -- "Heh, but I was a blind young man and my heart spoke for my mind."

NPC: "I showered her in gifts. I sent her rare flowers, purchased her rare perfumes, delivered the finest in laser rifle technology. But alas, she would send them back! She wanted nothing to do with me. There was nothing I could do. My gifts kept getting larger and larger.."

-- And then? -- "I made a terrible mistake, is what I did."
-- Let me guess.. -- "Yeah yeah, scold me all you want."

NPC: "One day, I finally gave up and told her that I would give her my KINGDOM just to be with her for a moment. She said 'Okay.'. And so I named her Queen of the land, and she stripped me of my title of King after one day. She then ordered me banished from the world forever! She took everything I had.."

-- Well that was a silly mistake.. -- "Love will blind one to such things.."
-- Did you plot revenge? -- "No, no.. I was in love with this woman.."

NPC: "And to be honest, I still am in love with her. So I was wondering if you'd do a poor refugee a favor. My last option was to make a love potion and make her mine forever if she wouldn't go by traditional means. I still have the recipe, but some of the ingredients are hard to get, and some need to be synthesized! Would you be able to help me out? I don't have much left, but if you help me, I would even give you my crown."

And so the player receives a "Love Potion Recipe" that requires the following ingredients:
    Starroot Sap Extract x10
    Alien Slime x 30
    Pink Dye #36P x2
    Thermo-ionized Liquid Base x1
    Essence-Concealing Vial x1

Starroot Sap Extract is made from processing Starroot Sap - for the duration of this quest, this item is found whenever you chop down a tree/destroy plantlife at random. Starroot Sap Extract takes 3 sap to produce.

Alien Slime is randomly dropped from all hostile aliens monsters at random when they die during this quest.

Pink Dye #36P takes a few different common ingredients found in plantlife on other worlds.

Thermo-Ionized Liquid Base is made from parts water, some refined iron, and and ion-salts which can be found when digging up blocks while working on this quest.

Essence-Concealing Vial is made from a few common ores found on worlds, and processed glass.

Once the player has all the ingredients, they are able to fabricate a love potion! When returning to the NPC, you get the following dialogue.

NPC: "Well, you've heard my tale. Do you have my love potion yet?"

-- I do! -- "Excellent! As promised, I've kept my crown safe all these years to remember where I cam from. It is yours."
-- Er, not yet. -- "I'm not getting any younger, and she's not getting any less attractive! I think anyway."

The player is rewarded with a Tarnished Crown - a cosmetic item that is an off-gold color that can be worn on the head. It may also be sold for a moderate amount of money for a low-level character.

Introduction: A routine inspection of your lab and a chat with a scientist opens up a random quest! One of the scientists has been performing experiments on one of the alien life forms you've examined/brought back to the lab. They've been learning about the creatures' immune system and have learned they can synthesize a medicine for the common space cold. However, the creatures have adapted to the lab environment and are now immune to the viral infection the scientists are using to force the creatures to produce the chemical needed to synthesize the medicine. The scientist asks you to return to the world where you found the creatures, infect some, kill them, and capture their excretions!

    Details:

You arrive on your homeworld/space station and speak to a Scientist. The scientist offers a quest:

Scientist: "Hey there. Would you like to help us with a little bit of a problem? We've been analyzing this <Insert random creature here> that you brought back, and we've learned that it has a very reactive immune system! We think we can synthesize powerful anti-cold medicine from it - however, the <Creature> in our lab seems to have grown completely immune to further infection and stopped producing the stuff we need to make the medicine. We need someone to head back to its home planet and get some of this material. Would you be up for it?"

If the player accepts, the Scientist continues:
Scientist: "Ah! Excellent. Take this injector gun - it'll fire a dart that'll inject the creature with the serum. Be careful though, they get very angry and very strong once infected. Kill the creature and collect the Antiviral Secretion. Bring 'em back, and we'll get to work on the medicine!"

The Scientist then gives the player a Viral Injector. This will fire a dart at a target enemy at a moderate-power shot that is affected by gravity. The darts don't do anything to any other creature than the target of the quest. The player must travel back to the planet where the creatures spawn, and use the dart gun to infect them. The player has infinite darts.

When hit by a dart, the creature will grow ~15% larger, get a slight reddish tint, and will gain a 25% Hit points and damage increase. Killing them will yield 1-3 vials of Antiviral Secretion. Collect 20 vials, and return back to the Scientist!

Scientist: "This is it? Excellent! This is an adequate sample size - we should be able to synthesize our own from here on out! We managed to get one more batch of the cure while you were away - it should be an adequate reward for all you've done! Society will no longer be plagued by the dreaded space-cold virus!"

The player is rewarded with two things: They get to keep a form of the dart gun, called the Adrenalizer - it must be researched to produce darts, but firing the Adrenalizer at an enemy produces the same effects as the viral dart injection, while increasing the loot that the creature drops by ~25%. They also receive "Antiviral Cure-all" that the player can use to become immune to poison/disease effects for 10 minutes. The recipe is then available to be manufactured at the factory.

Introduction: Speaking to a random NPC on the player's homeworld, the player receives this quest. The NPC says he invented something called an "Empire in a Box" and went to deploy it on an alien world. Unfortunately, while the device was in deployment mode, the local wildlife tore it to pieces and walked away with all the parts! The NPC is willing to pay handsomely for a re-assembled Empire-In-A-Box.

Introduction: Speaking to a random NPC on the player's homeworld directs the player to speak with his scientists. The Scientist informs the player that scans of a nearby planet show great levels of fossilized life-forms just waiting to be dug up! On the next new world the player discovered, the world will be spawned at player-appropriate threat level, and will spawn many fossils underground. The player must dig up a certain number of Damaged, Bleached, Preserved or Eternal fossils, then face off again a re-animated, fossilized version of one of the random life-forms populating the world!

Introduction: Speaking to a random NPC, the player is directed to talk to their Scientists. Upon speaking to the Scientists, the player learns that they are in need of a large number of aquatic life-forms for a focus study. The player must set out to different worlds with aquatic life and bring back several samples. After this, the player is invited to tackle a specific world and drop Synthesized SuperFish Food into the water, which will spawn a large squid-monster to attack the player. Defeating this creature and harvesting its brain is the ultimate goal of this adventure!

Introduction: The player is sent to investigate an uncharted world by one of the player's Scientists, after the Scientists detected encrypted radio signals coming from the planet. When the player arrives, he finds himself in the middle of a collapsed shelter. A human with a portable deep-space signaling device awaits the player there. A horrible plague infected everyone on the planet, and while the creatures retreat to the shadows during the day, come nightfall, they'll come for him again! He's run out of bullets, and his tools have stopped working so he can't repair his shelter. He needs your help to rebuild his home and fight off the attacking zombie horde!

Introduction: The player is approached by an NPC on his homeworld who claims to have seen a strange object burning through the sky and breaking up several days ago. The player's scientist confirm that there are traces of a human class spacecraft that traveled through the area recently, showing signs of damage. Radio signals show that the ship was heavily damaged and launched a series of escape pods that should have landed on nearby worlds. The player must travel to various explored and unexplored planets, rescuing the crash-landed crew members and bringing them back to your space station for either re-assignment, relief from duty, or to return them to wherever they came from.

    Space pirate quest sounds fantastic!

I am not generally a fan of "Gather these materials and bring them back"
But if they are scattered all over the world in the position of aliens, the hunt could be quite enjoyable.

These are meant to be quick on-the-fly have fun in 5 minutes quests that you can do while doing your daily routine on any planet. That's why they're mini quests, and that's why I write them ^_^ I'm unsure of what place the larger quests will get.
