YouTube/Livestream community unite?

Discussion in 'Starbound Discussion' started by TheEvanManz, Apr 27, 2013.

?

Would you like the Starbound YouTubers to unite and form a single group with many channels?

  1. Yes, I want a number of Starbound YouTubers to strive for unity and togetherness. :)

  2. Yes, but I hope every channel covers differing things pertaining to Starbound. :D

  3. It could work, but I couldn't care less if things work this way . 8)

  4. No, I think this will stunt the creativity of each individual involved in the project. >:(

I have been talking to some other YouTubers interested in working with Starbound in this THREAD.

I was thinking, because of the nature of Starbound and how dynamic and random it is, that the people interested in making Starbound videos could just all come together and become a team within the community. seeing as how each individual persons experiences will be different, I think this will eliminate some of the competition between two channels. This way, many of the YouTubers that will be covering Starbound can cooperate and either be guests on each others shows, and it would give the community a great group of people to watch. It'd be fun to watch many people in the community getting a long and doing videos for the community of Starbound.

I'm a newcomer to YouTube and uploading videos, and while i don't have much experience with it, I am comfortable with helping organize these things. If you're interested in doing this then PM me and we can get started with some plans to do this right.

So far I haven't got any responses, I'll probably monitor this for about a week. If by then there still isn't much feedback for this then i guess it means it's not needed!

  3. There is always the Famous Youtubers already that do coverage of a game by their own. What could be nice is a List for people interested find dedicated channels to Starbound!ยด

Well my friend created this channel dedicaded to starbound, nothing on it yet, waiting for the release.

But nah, I don't think there will be The "Yogscast of the Starbound" channel out there. It may end up like this, few youtubers dedicaded to starbound cooperating but you will olways have those lonely wolves out there. Like me, in my tiny Czech community, I will be creating Starbound videos on my own or with a friend/ few friends. And I can't imagine Tobuscus being in a group, he's already bussy enough and similiar youtubers like him.

Well, you can't expect Youtubers like Jesse Cox or TB to be interested in such a thing afcourse, but a group of people able to post overal higher quality videos with somewhat more views than they would otherwise acquire on their own might have some benefit. Should it become a channel where way too many videos are beeing pushed out with improper quality videos, however, it will just become ennoying and subscribers will become hard to acuire and to maintain. People might just be interested in just a single youtuber and indifferent or even ennoyed to/by the others...

Im of course talking to people on these forums specifically. I didn't think people would think that's what i wanted to do. I just wanna see if any other people that wanna start making videos solely for Starbound would wanna team up.

This reminds me of how Machinima works, a groups of people just posting about videos game. Exactly the same thing. As long as this is well planned and each video post will give the name of the person and a thumbnail different from the others, It could work. If you have people doing tutorials or such thing you could make a spin-off channel with people showing different ways of doing things for what ever reason. And like Bacon said, maybe a list of people already having dedicated videos for starbound.

My real goal that i had in mind, was not to always be like.... a hive mind with these people, but so that if people on the forums are interested in being like "Oh hey! I love starbound. oh and look, a bunch of people working together to make starbound a great game to watch people play, mostly because of how random and different everyones experiences will be"

I just think that Starbound, as a whole, makes this idea doable. Or maybe I'm over thinking how cool Starbound will be.

True. It makes it so you'll see what the game engine itself can really poop out at random times, something you might never see ever in someone else world.

What exactly are you suggesting? one massive server for youtubers to play starbound and record on?
or more like a TGS style of network where everyone is playing the same game, but have no correlation between each other, other than being involved in this network.
Also would there be requirements to join? for example no less than 720P videos, and a good microphone, and no pointing a camera at your PC to record. I imagine we'd want to put out quality content not people pointing cameras at their monitors.

My friends and I are going to be making Youtube videos of our adventures, tips and tricks, etc. over on our Denizens of Newart site, despite us making the site about trading. There is practically nothing on the site at the moment because A) Starbound isn't out yet and  No one is signed up for the site. Our videos will probably be 'loot' oriented though since we are all about trading, but we'd probably be interested in doing a collaboration of sorts.

i would love to join anyone's game and i don't have a channel so there won't be competition. i played about 80 hours of terraria and i am a student so ill have the whole summer off to play. the only downside is that i don't have a mic. i am offering myself to everyone but if you will let me play with you for a few episodes please let me know. playing together was 200 times more fun than single player in terraria.

I'm already in a group. "Uniting" everyone isn't very easy, its easier to just get people with a common goal and similarity's who can respect each other's opinions and thoughts that may be different and yet still be friends. (everyone actually knowing each other and being friends in group is very important). The more number of people there are, the more troublesome is can be.

    So in other words...
    1 single group = no
    Multiple groups = yes

Maybe, I don't know. It depends, just keep in touch with me and when I and the rest of the group manages to get the group running much more beneficently, then we'll accept more people in.

Remember, as I and others do believe in striving for an idealist goal, such as a type of unification, we don't attempt to reach them through an idealist path or idealistic means. Accepting everyone right off the bat is rather silly.

One way to do this that i believe might actually be interesting and not a giant waste of time, would be to copy the idea behind say mindcrack or Forgecraft, both are private Minecraft servers populated by people who are youtube personalities, ( except forgecraft their mostly mod developers but its the same basic concept) and the people playing may record separately but often run into each other and as such they have a giant team-speak server everyone can talk on at any given time.

The idea is that as a whole we work mostly separately so that getting people together at one time is less of a pain, but as we play and record people who are on at roughly similar times may actually affect what each other is doing. Of course there would have to be rules, IE no griefing someone while their offline if you find someone's base.
Everyone's videos should contain a link to a thread on these forums that contain the base principles of the server and also a list of all of us that play there with links to our channels and/or playlists.
Also as a gamer who likes to swear in his videos if something goes wrong, ( which it does quite often) we'd have to come up with a general rule on swearing, whether its allowed or not, regardless it probably shouldn't be allowed on the main chat or voice comm should those be set up whereas swearing into your own recording would be fine.

One thing i'd like to point out, as a youtuber i have a lot of experience with the idea behind let's plays and you don't get very far without a few extra people around or trying a new idea entirely, for Starbound if we can present a unified front we may be able to see serious gain on all of our channels.

Edit: also striving to all become one channel is not a good idea, the more gears you add to a simple machine the more likely it is to break down, and that rule follows the same for a channel.

The TGS style. There is no requirement, maybe they need to have 720 videos, but yeah, you have the right idea. I think of how MMO's try and make their pvp an "eSport". This would be almost like that, but instead of it being an "eSport" it'd be a option to watch Starbound videos and what the possibilities are in these YouTubers experiences. And maybe once in awhile we can do one big video, maybe co-operate, i dont know, I'm just suggesting this, and if enough people are interested and want to participate, then cool, obviously if people want it enough it's worth doing.
