Probably not. For Space Travel, personally, I don't think it would be like flying the ship third person stuff, I saw it more as being able to look at a star map index, or a visual representation, with an animation of traveling there. Possibly also events that are random, or even areas of open space for the idea people have had about a 'space' environment

I think it should travel by cutscene, with an occasional:

"You encounter an abandoned space ship! Explore? Y/N"
    or
"You encounter a strange, unique planet! Explore? Y/N"

That way random events, if any, won't hinder you too much.

Ahh, so like Sprites traveling a World Map from Point A to Point B style? That sounds viable. :)

    More like that
And with things like what Nate said

R-type minigame going from planet to planet. Or what-have-you.

I think space travel will be as long or short as you want it too be. I don't want to sit for 15 minutes watching my ship travel to a distant planet. But at the same time, I would really like to take a couple minutes to look at the awesomeness of space and stars, nebulae, black holes etc flying by.

sadly i agree with you about Starbound not being able to insert the sheer awesomeness of battlefront 2 space battles:cry::yoda: , but maybe they can make it fun in different ways:up:

I wonder... I also don't want to sit around for 30-60 min, searching through planet to planet. BUT i also want to explore the interesting space... And then we have the devs to think about. They already work the ****(butts) off on the game already, no need to make it harder for them... Thinking about the devs and such, i am going with the starmap. ;)

Based against how boring it would be to go to the other side of the galaxy to do a quest, i think that the starmap would be nice compared to co-ordinates or manual. The bad thing about co-ordinates is the you don't get the full look and thought of the galaxy. I'm sure they will add something like co-ordinates as seeds. Like you find planet with co-ordinates (18sA39G). You can save those and use them to generate a new world is not exactly like the first world, but the same stuff like; trees, style creatures. The manual would just be to plain boring while doing quests, and it would be hard for the devs to make another game worth of content... So my bet is starmap + co-ordinates. I hope you all like my thought about this... I'm a thinker like that.

I also heard that... While i was questioning around with em' i learned that there is a big screen used as a starmap. Co-ordinates are used as seeds. Phew. :'

I love it, simple and quick. Starbound doesn't need anything more expect for coordinates.
