I don't think realism has an overbearing place in a game like this. I'm happy for it to have realistic physics as it helps immerse you to a greater extent into the game.

But beyond that I won't be whining if I find something that isn't realistic in the game.

I think there should a food meter thing, but I think it should lower of the course of several days, and have nothing to do with activity.

I don't understand why everyone hates food bars because the minecraft version depleted so quickly.

I've never seen a food bar implemented in a way that wasn't annoying. Never ever never.

Yes you have, you just didn't see it as a food bar.

Health is similar to a food bar (as long as it does not regenerate). where it lowers over time and once it reaches 0, you die.

Hunger bar is just one that lowers no matter what, like a toxin effect.

    Can you spot the difference?

Well, you lose health faster than you lose hunger (or atleast how a good hunger bar in something like this should be implemented), and people don't call health annoying.

Well yeah, you just said the difference lol, and its still annoying. I don't want to be required to lug around a bunch of food if I feel like exploring for a while in a game specifically made to explore.

Yes, but you don't lose health over time. You have to take damage which is your own fault so you can't complain. Hunger depletes without any control and If it does hits zero you die, lose a substantial amount of health or lose the ability to complete certain tasks. Unless you carry a ton of food with you, which is a waste of inventory space and is really annoying.

    EDIT: Ninja'd!

In terraria, enemies constantly spawn, and you constantly take damage.

What I'm implying is a hunger bar that decreases slowly, and gets completely refilled easily.

Something to encourage food production, but simply and non-obstructive enough that one is not bothered by it.

    You don't say.

And that's great and everything, but what does that add to the game besides the realism of having to eat every once in a while?

    also:
The Following has been stated as NOT being in the game -
    • Food Meter
So yeah, this is kind of a pointless discussion either way.

It opens up a reason to build a base.

You can go along a planet, strip its valuables, creating better equipment and throwing away older ones as you go, because there's not much that really need a long standing base so far.

Well, I give up arguing the food bar, it's too far controversial and I would not like to start a flame war.

But I say we need some sort of agriculture, science or ammo production, maybe feed for pets, just something that can be an incentive to settle down.

You can build turrets/fortifications, crafting stations, possibly teleporters/elevaters, etc. I mean, there's a lot of reasons to make a base.

    In starbound?

Planetary base, the space station would be the ultimate base, grief-proof, no mobs, kind of a hub area.

We need a incentive for players to actually build something planetside, not just run everything on a space station.

I mean, really, if you had a space station that could do nearly anything, why would you need a planetary base?

I say we implement pet feed.

I intend on building planetary bases because I may want to stay on a certain planet for awhile. Like I said in the "thoughts on space travel" Im going to be going to every planet and search until I've explored the entire planet. Im not too worried about griefers since I usually run on a private server with my friends. (I hope thats in there to start)

Back to the topic... I still think realism depends on the game.

What would be the difference between going nomadic and settlement in SB? Very little, from what I see it doesn't really matter if you mine ores, Because you can just get some money and buy a shotgun.

We need incentives for both styles, if possible.

There shouldn't be too much realism like Arma but there should be enough that it doesn't turn into Saints Row or something similar. The main reason for this is because if something is too realistic people will complain. If something isn't real enough people will complain. If the bananas are slightly green people will complain, so it doesn't even matter... This entire paragraph ended at this. That everyone will complain no matter what and I can't say that I've never complained about something being too realistic (I hated Arma). Seeing as how people look more real and that this has water pressure, I don't have enough information to see if it really is a realistic game. For now, it seems, the game is the perfect amount of real as a sci-fi game can get. Edit: I just noticed how much this paragraph was a complete troll.
