Your Spaceship...

I didn't see this mentioned anywhere, so...

Does your character, upon starting a new game in Starbound, begin with (or on) your spaceship that we've seen in various videos, or do you have to work towards building one before you can explore the galaxy?

Related to this: Can you upgrade different aspects of your spaceship, like how far it can travel on a single tank of fuel or how it looks?

Hmmm, that does answer my first question ("Players start on their ships (after leaving their homeworlds, for various reasons.)"), but not so much my second.

 

Yes, you start with a spaceship. Unless there's some sort of planet-side intro, in which case you don't technically start with it, but acquire it very early on. It can be upgraded, though right now that just entails 3 or 4 different size upgrades, all of standard shape; no weapons systems or anything. The devs have stated that they'd like to add in space combat eventually, which I assume will include more specific upgrades for the ship.

 

Thanks for the clarification! You wouldn't happen to know if there's a single place where all announced features are listed?

 

People have tried, but there are so many features discussed in so many different areas that I think it's been difficult to keep it consolidated. There might be someone out there maintaining a comprehensive list that I just haven't seen. Perhaps they can speak up with a link? =)

 

There is the Announced Game Information thread, which is a pretty good resource despite no longer updating. It tails off around the time of the daily updates.

I sure hope we can customize the ship quite a bit...even maybe to the point of a different looking navigation system or travel speed or fuel efficiency.
