Large, but not obnoxiously large planet, with east-west connection definitely. Calm colours, it's all pretty standard, but just a bit alien. Sky is somewhat tinted greenish — it is still blue, but with just a bit of cyan. Yellow-orange sun, smaller and colder than one we have, but the planet is closer to its' sun, so it is not cold.

Major defining feature is that there are two definite "heights".

About 40% of surface belongs to large, very large and tall mesas — high and very steep mountains with huge plateau-like flat tops. Plateaus of these mesas are covered with savannas, deserts and maybe even tundras, depending on location (simulating latitude). Not much trees, if any. Air density is at about 1 atmosphere up there. Plateaus are pretty calm, with some not that dangerous fauna and maybe some peaceful local sapients. These broad flatlands are perfect for setting a landing spot and building a base. Serene, peaceful and probably just a bit dull.

Other 60% of surface is "true" surface, land upon which these huge mesas exist: lowlands. They are hot and very humid. Air is way more dense there, and there is water so there are almost constant storms, including thunderstorms. Great, retro-futuristic "Venusian jungle" is down there, with humongous trees, poisonous flora, hostile fauna and aggressive inhabitants.

There are also several lakes and seas (connected into ocean or not), but they are under the ground, in huge caves. These are real seas, not just underground cisterns filled with some water — cave is always noticeably larger than water it holds, so that there is a shore with space for, say, small underground village.

A small planet, covered in meadows of golden grass. To the west, a giant ocean, sunset orange in colour, holds mountainous outcroppings, covered in peaceful wildlife.

On the mainland, a giant citadel made of marble stands, filled with golden aliens, with wings.

The sky is always azure blue, and you can actually stand on the clouds. On one such cloud, there is a town, made of gold, which acts as a dock to any welcoming space travellers.

Mine would be a false mechanical planet that is covered in robots and the land constantly blowing up or moving that would be between 2 different stars and would be so intensely hot and nearly ripped apart no human or creature could live there unless the were inside of the one of the deep holes drilled within one of the stars were they have found a way to make it just cold enough for humans or other creatures and has a gravity altering device to keep it from collapsing.:alien:

A planet covered in water. The only sign of life above the water would be a floating city (floating on top of the water, not in the air). Inside the city would be an arena for combat and a zoo containing all of the creatures I have captured while exploring. Anyone would be allowed to enter, so long as they agree to not engage in combat outside of the arenas. Ah, I almost forgot the best part... The grand hall, where great warriors can drink and talk about their many accomplishments. There would also be trade districts where people could sell and trade items. This city would also be a safe haven for all clans, unless they decide to enter the arena. Oh, one last note. If you do decide to enter the arena it will only be to the death if both sides consent, otherwise only your honor will be at stake.

A huge world so horribly hard to play in I could only explore with end game items.
I should have large randomly generated structures resembling ruins of perhaps bases, filled with vicious creatures and wonderful treasures.

If possible, floating islands that float and drift around the air, colliding to each other with loud bang noises.
When enough space is secured, settle a base using the remnants of the structures.

It should also have villages and other communities of stupid nature-loving pacific aliens for me to terrorize, enslave and annihilate.

    M'kayze-

A desert spans the surface of the planet, making it hard to colonize. The humans that do live there are forced to Terraform a new ecosystem every few years as the environment is constantly getting destroyed by the red giant that the planet orbits. Giant worms that spit acid live in the shifting sands, while large avian predators circle the skies, making it almost impossible to leave the safe zone without dying. However, M'kayze has a secret underneath the sands, where a large underground oasis lives. Of course this is only legend, however, most of the deaths on the planet are from off-worlder's searching for the treasure trove that is the underground oasis.

A planet covered with black earth/sand/dirt. From that earth, black trees grow, making a died forest of darkness. At this place, live creatures, that looks like shadows, with lot of eyes, and make a creepy noise, and it can teleport. It's just one side of the planet, that doesn't take sun. The side that don't take sun, you can always feel something following you, but you can't reach it, something looking you. There are too caves, with the essence of dark, the creatures become giant, and make more creepy noise, more creatures are following and watching you. This side have water too, but a corrupted one, that is dirty and makes you feel sad.

There's a side that takes sun, it have green grass, HUGE trees, and giant wild life, like walking trees, trolls (Not the internet one). The wood of this side, is really hard, so, you can't cut it with normal axes, you will need laser axes. Making houses with this wood, of course will make you safe during night.

Well, this is my idea of nice world. A world without rotation.

Artificial and hollow planet, created by an ancient and extremely technologically advance race, that is is inhabited by several races of humanoid aliens, not only on the outside but on the inside surface as well.
Interior surface is huge area of lush, tropical jungles with large rivers flowing throughout and boasts an incredibly large array of wildlife. Outside surface is almost entirely covered with water and all of the land is harsh and arid desert but with an equally large array of animals as inside surface.

  15. JacobW

    JacobW Void-Bound Voyager

My perfect planet would be a hot, desert planet, covered in eternally changing sand dunes. The winds constantly alter the shape of the world, shifting the sands into new formations; where a flat plain had been the day before, huge dunes could be the next day. The landscape would be interspersed with the occasional oasis, where the only free flowing water can be found, or rocky cliffs, riddled with tunnels and eroded into strange shapes by the huge sand storms that sweep around the entire planet.

The plant life would be centred on the few oases, where it would thick and lush, but elsewhere it would comprise of tough, hardy shrubs and grasses that cling onto life in the few sheltered cliff-faces or rocky outcroppings. However, one plant species, in order to gain the vital substances needed for life, which are almost completely absent from the dry sands, have evolved to trap and digest animals. Locally known as Mirror-Lurkers, these mercifully rare plants grow in steep sided pits. A single plant will cover the walls of the pit, and across the top it will grow a thin, polished membrane, resembling a pool of water. Unwary animals, hoping for a drink, step on the membrane, which instantly retracts, exposing the gaping maw of the Lurker below.

The main form of prey for the Mirror-Lurkers, and indeed animal life in general in the desert would be reptilian, as there is simply not enough water on the surface to support other life forms. The reptiles would be extremely quick and agile, in order to move quickly over the burning sands and to catch their insect prey. However, the main reason for their agility is to avoid the deadly Craw-Wurms.

These deadly predators can swim through the sand as if it were water. They can live for hundred of years, and can grow to immense lengths. They never sleep, their ravenous appetite demanding that they are always searching for their next meal. The only real safe places in the world are on the rocky cliffs, where they cannot burrow but, even there, safety is not assured as the Wurms have been known to track a target for weeks, waiting until they venture down from the bare cliffs in the search for water.

The local inhabitants are the Vehk-ka-Shaw, meaning 'People of the Sand'. They are desert nomads who sail the vast oceans of sand on their Wind Runners, ships that glide across the surface of the desert without sinking, always moving forwards, scratching out a living in this desolate location. Their ships, constructed from the scales of the largest Craw-Wurms, contain entire ecologies, with huge water condensers and hydroponic labs where all their food is grown. Water has replaced Pixels as the currency of the world, and wars are fought between the different factions of the Vehk-ka-Shaw over the control of the oases.

    The Mute One Phantasmal Quasar

A dark, winter forest/mountain planet. The world has no Sun or bright source of light orbiting it, so it's always night. This area is deep in a galaxy far away from any sort of civilization and only I know the safe way out of it. The planet itself is covered in a layer of 3 inch snow that never melts. The environment is a dark, maze-like and snowy forest where blizzards occur frequently and only certain creatures live. Otherwise, the area is a bunch of mountains made of a greenish, metallic ore and covered in less dense, snowy forests.

There are several species living here that are all mutated versions of normal creatures found in the civilized part of Starbound.

I started with a simple description of my ideal planet that kinda started to spiral out of control. My talents lie more towards scientific research and analysis, but occasionally I do like to try something a little more creative.

I don't promise a good read, but I can assure you that I did put a fair amount of effort into it and I am happy with the result. If you simply want to read the description, it is found between the second and third dotted lines. If you are willing to give it a shot and read the whole thing, I would be grateful for any feedback you would be willing to provide. Thanks in advance!

In a solar system on the very edge of the galaxy, maintaining a circular heliocentric orbit around a spectral G-Class star is a planet scientifically identified as Daleko 438x. With an almost perfect distance from its native sun and an ideal output of high energy radiation, the continuous explosions of plant life across Daleko 438x can be observed by space telescopes with spectroscopic instruments from across the galaxy.

The opportunities for research and medical advancements were thought to be endless, but the vast distance and unknown dangers made an expedition impractical at best. However, an ambitious and greedy collective of genetic research companies pooled their resources to craft an expeditionary team with the brightest minds and top-of-the-line tech.

I graciously accepted command of the expedition flagship, the SS Tarcza, unaware of the adventures that lie in wait.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After 7 months and 23 days of travel, the expeditionary fleet stopped in detector range of Daleko 438x to take preliminary scans and analyze the atmosphere to calculate entry vectors for the fleet. The results of the scans were nothing short of remarkable; the chlorophyll counts and genetic variation scans were off the charts.

Descent to the planet seems difficult initially due to the thick atmosphere and strong magnetic fields that arc around the entire planet. My chief science officer informs me that the magnetic fields are, subjectively, 7 times “stronger” than Earth. He stresses that magnetic field strength is variable from point to point and can change without notice.

Descent to the surface of Daleko 438x will occur in approximately 3 days once the computers finish calculating entry vectors.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Preliminary analysis of Daleko is complete and it appears to be uninhabited by any intelligent life. Basic reports from my science teams indicate that Daleko is 1.4x the size of Earth and the planet’s surface is approximately 68% water and 22% of that water is fresh. The oceans present vary from long, steady plateaus to trenches that exceed 4 miles in depth. An oceanic reef of some type (presumably similar to the coral that once existed on Earth) that covers almost 186,000 square miles.

The remaining (32%) surface of the planet consists of 4 major landmasses that appear to consist mostly of heavy jungle with slight temperate regions at the north and south ends. There do not appear to be any permanent ice caps at the apparent poles of the planet. The hot, humid jungles that cover the majority of the continents have canopies that stretch hundreds of feet into the air with the occasional tree that breaks 500 feet and spires above the existing canopy.

The topography of the planet is fairly tame with the occasional larger hill, but only the largest continent has any semblance of actual mountains. Gora, as the science teams have named it, has a large cluster of mountains on the Eastern edge that contain a volatile magma pit that is almost 5 miles in diameter.

The star of this solar system has emitted several unexpected energy bursts over the last 36 hours, but my science teams assure me that a star of this type is prone to such displays and poses no real threat.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vectors for every ship in the expeditionary fleet have been established. Ground teams are loading munitions and preparing to establish a perimeter once we reach Daleko’s surface. The descent will likely damage the drag panels severely for every ship, but we have replacements availab

    //EMERGENCY LOG OVERIDE – SOLAR ANOMOLY DETECTED//
Solar flares detected from G-Class star at intensity level 9.2; Contingency 8-3G is now in effect.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The fleet is lost. Of the 483 personnel that originally embarked on the expedition, only 17 are here with me now. Without being able to direct the escape pods to appropriate vectors of approach, the majority of them burnt away to nothingness in the atmosphere. There may be other survivors, but the magnetic fields of the planet damaged or disabled any equipment that was not properly protected.

Now, glancing to the sky above from make-shift shelters constructed with scrap metal, I can only gaze in wonder to the aurora above. The same solar flares that acted as harbingers for the death of our fleet now scream across the magnetic field of Daleko in mockery of our misfortune.
