Here is my current human ship, just made him earlier today, he's a bit of a screw loose. I just can't bring myself to build a large structure knowing it will get wiped. but once I reach the current end-game wall I'll probably build something.
It's a bit long, but I love doing these types of planet-wide bases with a bunch of rooms for specific needs. All I need now are spawners.
My first attempt at a house in Starbound. It's just a little place, but it's mine. And the Avian Air Pirates I stole all the decorations from. I'm sure they won't miss those tapestries, or crates, or their anchor... or their propellers... hmm, I might wanna think about leaving this planet...
I just made a tiny little place. You can see have a crappy farm set-up. Need to terraform some and make it look nice, but I like my cozy house.
Of course! Thumbnails below (since the pics are gonna be 1680x1050 full size) The entrance: players beam down directly on the elevated pad (and the glass-less window behind allows beaming out). I think I'll move the guard, cause he doesn't seem to want to sit down at the beam-in console at all and tends to just stand around in the way of the airlock., DERP. Likely gonna spawn a regular NPC in his stead and have a guard spawn on the little elevated platform outside instead ~ "Arrivals" area. Took some fenangling to get the building centered on the tree and since you can't break wall panels behind one (yet) without chopping down the trees, you have to get it right the first time. Spawned a few Hylotl and linked doors that lead to dangerous-er areas to USCM hand panels so they won't go off and get themselves killed (since this is a sector X jungle moon) After the tube (inspired by Super Metroid: http://hugobille.com/uploads/2/7/8/2/2782909/760016.png ): Up is the greenhouse area, down is going to lead to storage and crafting, which I haven't done yet. Coralcreep gets the smallest amount of land to grow since it grows insanely fast, and I store extra seeds in the locker near the pipe valve. Handy beam out window where the consoles are. The other side of the greenhouse: Similar but not too much. The hill to the left goes up fairly high, so the rest of the base will be built in layered steps going up. Will mostly be shops and residential areas; namely I grabbed the red cross panels from one of those wheelchair Apex brain-monkey dude facilities so I can make a proper-indicated medbay to put a doctor spawner in. Top of the greenhouse: vents, lights and a bunch of leafstacks made with plantmaterialstone gathered from a floran prison dungeon. I love that stuff. Under the greenhouse: strategically placed lights to light up surrounding caverns and the pool of water for purely aesthetic reasons. I was gonna make the pipe there all glass like the others at first, but I'm so close to the surface that breaking the back wall to put in glass would of revealed a jungle background, which would look weird under a pool of water with cave wall. My main building materials have been Steel blocks, Plantblocks, Rusty Metal, Light Metal, Pressurized Steel, Wall Panels, Glass, and Sewer Pipes, Iron Blocks, Support Blocks and Pressurized Beam blocks for trims. I intend to eventually extend this to the entire surface of the jungle moon and make a thriving Hylotl colony (one of the few! at least for now since we don't have ocean planets or Hylotl towns yet). Sadly none of these screenshots are high up enough to show the magma moon or the volcanic planet this moon orbits around. I intend to set up a huge mining facility mainly made Rusty Metal on the volcanic planet.
@Khatsworth: This is awesome. Kudos! I like how the trees and such are incorporated. It gives me some inspiration for my momentary Project, which I might show if I get it finished before the next whipe. And if I find some more decoration than just the USCM Prison stuff, thats clogging my cargo bay.
Thanks! I'd love to see your build when it's done. I've always been adamant about adapting builds to terrain rather than adapting terrain to builds (such as building around and over mountains in Minecraft), so that's why the ground isn't leveled in the greenhouse and I tried to keep trees and shrubs here and there. Obviously I have to carve out dirt and stone to build underground, but at the same time when I spot little pockets of water, I incorporate those as well, like for my crafting room (which I just finished): Stairs up left will lead to ore/building block storage, and beyond that reconnect to the rest of the base where the greenhouse ends; the small path below that crosses over the pool of water will lead to power facility (a huge colony needs lots of power!)
Our outposts Teleportation Facility and Food Farm Alpha - nothing super fancy yet as we've only just begun harvesting décor. We envision a small fortress city at least half the planet wide
How did you place the blue lights in a vertical position? That looks much more appropriate than having them orizontal.
They're a separate object. I *think* I found them in a USCM base, but I'm not sure. I've been duplicating them with the 3D Printer since
Yeah the vertical blue lights are found in the entrance tunnel to the underground USMC base. And now that I think about it - it never occurred to me to grab any ><
I thought they switched orientation depending on where you set them. I know books work like that at least. Could someone confirm?
how the heck do you guys place and remove background blocks? been trying to figure it out for so long.
