YES! (4 pack would be sweet)

This is a truth that I forgot to mention. 4-pack or bundle options would be great to have. If you decide to do the pre-order through Steam it would be especially easy.

I would personally probably invest in two 4-packs if it was an option.

I see almost everyone is invested in pre-ordering 4-packs. I'll be happy with a 1-pack.

I would love to pre-order and the 4-pack would be exceptionally amazing since i have brothers and sisters who too can not wait to play!
Keep up the good work guys:chucklefish: I wouldn't even mind pre-ordering before you guys release the beta just to help get it going!

Featuring all of those things You want on a pre-order is really easy on Steam right now! ^_^

My thoughts on a Steam Pre-Release:

    - Preordering would get you access to the beta *when the beta is ready*, the only time line for that is "2013", but you'll be able to track progress on the roadmap. We'll make it super clear when you preorder that there is no guarantee when the beta will be available other than some time within 2013.
This got pretty easy right now with that "Early Alpha playing" that Valve made a few months ago on Steam, so it is perfectly possible =)

    - Preordering will be cheaper than buying the game after it comes out of beta
I think You can do this with a Pre-Release discount (maybe a 10% off) or something like that in Starbound's Steam Shop Page.

    - Preordering through playstarbound.com will get you a steam key when the game hits steam (likely at beta), as well as a direct download.
I like this one! It will be awesome to buy it here DRM-Free and get a Steam Key too ^_^ It will be cool to get a 4-Pack pre-order though!!

    - The potential for paying more for extras is there (think kickstarter tiers), but none of these extras would be in game items/content. We're committed to making sure you get the *whole* game for a basic purchase. So it'd likely be soundtrack/artbook/name a star style rewards.
This can be done too on Steam. Another cool feature would be "Pre-Order Tiers" like the more the pre-orders, the more extra content, i.e: "If 20.000 pre-orders made, people who pre-orderer Starbound get a free copy of Terraria".

    - There are lots of payment services we could make use of, BMT micro, humble store, digital delivery or something else. Which would you prefer?
I usually use PayPal, but any other method will be cool =)

    - Preordering will get you the linux, mac and windows versions of the game.
This can be done on Steam too. In fact, if You buy a game, they give You that game on those three platforms ^_^

    Just my 2 cents ^_^
Oh and I'll pre-order Starbound as soon as it gets available! =)

So pre-order would include being able to pre-order for someone else?

It's very common on steam, most games that aren't that expensive, you can buy a 4-player pack for the price of 3. It allows people to buy it for a group of people, for a little cheaper price than having all of them buying it separately.

    Edit: Grammar mistake.

    I'm almost certain but...

Also, Pre-Order for Beta is fantastic... even in an unfinished state. I'd prefer it through something like STEAM, if at all possible.

Think I agree with everything JohnBlackHill. Steam Early access would also allow for easy payment? PayPal is great too.

I would definitely get a game with such potential pre-ordered.

Everything in this I can agree with. As almost all of us here have been waiting for some time, pre-order bonuses would be spectacular in my opinion.

Though I have never been the type to preorder a game (why would you when it's far safer to wait for reviews?) I think this will be the first game that I would be willing to preorder. Seeing how much I have enjoyed Terraria and that Starbound is a similar game I am reasonably sure it will be just as awesome, and probably moreso, than Terraria.

That said the least I would expect before preordering a product is knowing when I can receive it. A timeframe of "somewhere in 2013" is too vague for me and it feels like it could very well end being "somewhere in 2014". I would therefore not place a preorder. If on the other hand you are sure that it is indeed somewhere in 2013 than I would advise you to just say "november/december 2013". I would preorder that delicious bits and bytes immediately!
