I registered just to post my support of this. So, yep, I would absolutely preorder.

I too registered just to say: Yes, Please! Any payment platform will do, and regardless of tiers/perks/bonuses. I will still buy multiple copies for myself and the friends who will learn to love the game ;).

Not too keen on the vague '2013' release date though. Given that we would be making a financial commitment to support the devs, I would prefer the devs commit to at least a quarter, even if it is Q4.
Since the game is close enough to offer a pre-order, it's not unreasonable to ask for a better estimate for the beta. It's not like we expect a fully featured bug-free beta anyway, so meeting a deadline shouldn't be an issue...

Other than that, Shut Up and etc. etc...

Steam early-access would be ideal. If we bought the game, we could get into the beta.

All those options don't really have any downfall - hell, multiple of those options would be great. Making the game as accessible as possible in terms of payment services should be top of the list regarding those options, the options to buy/preorder the game the better, for you as a company as well as for us the consumer - which of course is obvious.

In terms of what the preordering of the game would give us, is debatable - the only option I don't particularly like is the preordering will make the game cheaper than the release price, from what I've heard for pricing the game has be speculated around $10-$15, even at around $15-$25 that would seem reasonable to me as a consumer considering the amount of content that has been said to be in the game as well as the free updates - no dlc, no micro-transactions (excluding expansions) - dropping that price just seems a little bit of a waste of potential cash flow to put towards the staff, Starbound future development as well as development into more games for you guys.

I like the idea of the beta, possibly early access - and the tiered system is really great for those that really want to devote that extra money towards you guys without it being like donations/charity - however you wish to label it.

Preordering seems to be a win-win situation for this game - you are very open with what the game does and doesn't do which negates the whole fiasco of recently released games and the problems they have had - (SimCity, Aliens: Colonial Marines). If preordering helps a couple of your guys to have full commitment to Starbound that can only be good, faster development - faster release/more content.

For tier rewards there could be a lot you can do with that like you said artwork/book, soundtrack, naming stars/monsters/npc's/weapons - etc.

    That's just my '2cents'.

Looking forwards to playing Starbound. :)

the people who will pre-order will be a much smaller amount than the actual sales they'll receive once the game is fully finished. Also, about the price, while you certainly could argue that with all the content that has gone into starbound, a 15-25$ price tag might be justifiable, however, the issue is that once you start getting into higher price ranges, you risk alienating potential customers due to the price. Also, the lowered price for pre-orders is simply a reward for those who show support for the game and team even when they have not yet been given anything in return.

  13. We've been getting a lot of stuff in return, actually. Community contests, interaction with the developers, pictures, videoclips, character creator, etc. :)

Anything that makes the beta come faster I'm ready to throw money at. I can't wait the game looks and sounds awesome!
Personally I want beta acess, full game when ready and digital soundtrack if possible. Price? Anything under $40 is acceptable.

I understood you just fine :). I like the idea of getting an in game item like a cape, but personally if we got something like character skins or hair as a preorder exclusive I don't think that would be too fair to those who may not have heard of it during the preorder phase. But if we have something like a cape or other cosmetic item or maybe a skin that works for all pets called "The Chucklefish" that might be more fair.

Although this is easily my most anticipated game this year, I'd only consider preordering if there was a guarantee of a release (even if its BETA) within a month of so of opening the preorder. In other words, I'd like a pretty accurate release date before coughing up the cash ;)

And that is what I like about starbounds dev team putting a lot of hard work into the game and caring about their fans/customers. I know from what I have seen that Starbound will sell a lot of copies. Thanks Ingwaz for clearing up alot of the misunderstandings .

that's not really the same thing though. That's community interaction, which for small teams particularly, is a very mutually beneficial idea. This however would be a direct reward, a kind of encouragement and even a thank you for supporting starbound and its team even when the game is not finished and they've had to delay it's release a few times. Think of it this way, some people have some reason to be upset with the fact that we were told some things, but the team was not able to deliver on this (note: I'm not mad at the dev team for this). This is kind of a way of showing that they know things haven't quite worked out as they had originally hoped they would, but they're thankful that we're sticking with them and wanting to show support for them, so in return, they're offering a reduced price on the game, should pre-orders happen, so that while we're still getting the product we want, and supporting the team, they're also giving something back to us, as a way of saying thanks.

You should just start a poll of some sorts for us to vote :p

I think this thread has effectively shown there is no need for that. The only thing I think a poll would be useful for, is to vote on potential tiered rewards. However, that should probably be first determined by the team (because only they know what they can do), then maybe discussed with the community, and then put into action.
