Tiy:Ok I had on more thought. I couldn't remember it off the top of my head in my last post.

You guys mentioned multiple payment methods. This is a good idea. I would stress though an option that doesn't require a debit, credit, or paypal to make a payment.

Was this thread really necessary? Did you really have to ask our permission to make you're life and development job easier? Stop letting the community push you around and asking them for permission for everything and just do what you think will work!

Great idea, glad to be able to support the dev team.

Distribution method - anything i can use a credit card for, prefer not to have to sign up to YET another different payment website... paypal, google etc...

Teirs - Please nothing that needs posting. I'd be paying more because I think the product is worth it, I don't want physical clutter. P.s. Also consider the people will pre-order from ALL over the world, I myself am in Australia. In game stuff would be fine, whatever form that takes.

I'll definitely pre-order! :p I don't mind what the payment scheme is, just make sure that I can order from New Zealand! I can't wait!

    - Preordering will be cheaper than buying the game after it comes out of beta
Sounds great, don't make it to cheap though! (but that's just me)

    - Preordering through playstarbound.com will get you a steam key when the game hits steam (likely at beta), as well as a direct download.
Glad to hear that this is confirmed.

    - The potential for paying more for extras is there (think kickstarter tiers), but none of these extras would be in game items/content. We're committed to making sure you get the *whole* game for a basic purchase. So it'd likely be soundtrack/artbook/name a star style rewards.
'Name a star' sounds fun! Though for ideas...
Autographed items, figurines, clothing, accessories. Not sure what else but, they're just ideas.

    - There are lots of payment services we could make use of, BMT micro, humble store, digital delivery or something else. Which would you prefer?
I'm fine with anything that is trusted and takes credit cards without the need of some sort of registration. Personally that is. (I dont know if any of the services you already listed are like that or not, sorry!)

    - Is the 2013 timeframe too large? Or is opening preorders a good thing if it allows us to get the beta out faster?
If this will truly help with the making of the game, I say it's a great idea!

Though I suggest on waiting till you get a nice amount of pre-orders before releasing a beta even if it's ready.
Considering as soon as a digital version of the game is out in the open, piracy will most likely happen. Sadly..

Unless some sort of DRM/Anti-piracy measure is being planned?

That's why I propose they make tiers based on money earned in total, including sales. This gives people insight into expansions and added content. They know how much money they need to live and support their business and family. So from sales figures chucklefish can extract how much money can go into expanding the game even more. New races, new scenery, new music, more dungeons, more npcs, intergalaxy travel to galaxies with different physics... etc.
I actually like companies like egosoft and mojang that keep expanding their games. Sure, they don't work as fast as I'd hope, but they're still doing it years after their game was released.

yes, yes, a thousand times, yes.
the anticipation for a release or beta is rather great, and being able to put money into the project would to a degree sate the desire to see the game release...
...not to mention it would help the dev team out, i feel, as they hurry through development.

my suggestion to that affront is that any usage of the game has to be linked to a steam account (as is already seeming to be the case) even if offline, perhaps allowing the game's dedicated servers to check to see if the person playing is legitimate (perhaps check to authenticate if the person is playing through steam) as an option, which could potentially bar out most of the fake "hackers" who simply use cracks, keygens and the like to get their games from servers, especially since alot of the fun from starbound will likely come from playing with friends and even random people. not to say starbound won't be fun on it's own, by yourself, which i have no doubt it will be, but most games of this style seem to derive a ton of the entertainment value and replay-ability from friends.

he said that any extra money you might pay could be a possible NOT IN GAME item, like a t-shirt or something... he made it rather clear that, no matter how much money is put in, they are releasing the full game, at one single price... not a partial game at a set price. a full game means all of the planned features, none taken out.

Either i'm missing something, or you are. From what I can gather, they're not saying that they'd only include certain things in the game if they had a certain amount of sales. What it seems to me that they are saying, is that if you were to pay more through something like a kickstarter donation or something like that, you could receive extra things, such as an art book, sound track, or the option to pick the name of a star. The potential options they mentioned sound like kickstarter tiers in this sense, not in the sense of, "if we get x amount of money, we'll add this in."

I've heard very few (if any) negatives to a pre-order.
It also sounds like a pre-order would be very beneficial for the Starbound team itself.
So I have to wonder, was Tiy actually thinking we might be skeptical about this?

I dont think so, he just wanted to see what we think before he does anything. Its important to listen to your "customers" before doing anything what would change some major things.

I'm in Ill preorder for sure. I do not like the idea of too many versions of the preorder. Three tiers would be nice, but not many more.

The sooner the pre-order and beta the better :)

Of course the beta for testing and finding more bugs before release ^^

    Good luck guys :)

If I had more hands I'd break more keyboards due to excitement, am going to pre-order the game as soon as it's available, plus I(alongside of every other pre-orderer) will contribute to the "Omni and Bartwe pls food on table" foundation, that'll make them less hungry, and work better :D
about the tiers, I'd suggest doing the kickstarter stretch goal methods, the more people buy the game, more pre-order exclusive stuff will be unlocked for all the contributors, about the tier rewards themselves, I think exclusive re-skins of stuff such as armor, weapons, pets and more if possible would be the ideal to thank each and every contributor without hurting those who prefer to contribute post-release and not pre-release.
