sounds good to me narrowing down the delivery time to Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 etc would be good. 2013 is fine though

The people on this forum are some of the most amazing and kind people, and there's nothing that we'd want more than to help support you guys in any way we can, if you want to put out a pre-ordering function I am sure both I and everyone else here can safely say we will buy it the moment it is available!

Pre-order would be a great idea. I would certainly buy a copy. Personally i'd really appreciate Steam key, but anything else will be fine.

I wish you guys had been honest and up-front about needing the money to keep the devs from needing second jobs. I think me and a lot of people would have been more than happy to help with that.

Anyway, I'd prefer anything that doesn't need paypal. Seriously, I hate paypal. I'd rather something like kickstarter and I'll need two copies because I still owe a buddy a X-Mas gift. Just tell me which slot to stick my credit card in.

 

I'm definitely pre-ordering! If I were to spend alot of money on the development of a game (I am going to anyways) I would expect my name put in the game, or some exclusive mount/spaceship/weapon/hat only available to people who donate a certain amount. I've always wanted my name in a game, so that would be the best thing ever.

A pre-order would benefit all involved. Even if you're already convinced to do it, I can't express how much I want to support you guys.

If you want some sort of gift to give out to pre-orderers, how about some sort of Chucklefish VIP status sort of thing, where we get a small discount on your next game, or exclusive concept art to our emails? Of course, any virtual documents would be spread instantly, but the novelty of it is always nice. I've been wanting to collect more physical game memorabilia, so maybe a free pick from a plethora of Starbound merch? You know, when physical merchandise is being made.

 

I do agree with this to some extent, but pre-ordering is completely optional. It's not like you're forced to pay for it. And with the amount of people begging for it, what else are they supposed to do? The update posts are already flooded with such posts.

Why is my money not digitizing as soon as it hits my screen?

 

I am going to preorder multiple copies of Starbound regardless of the beta, timeline, or any bonus content!

Regarding a preorder incentive.

What if those who preorder are part of a Starbound easter egg? Everyone who preorders would have their user name placed into a list used for the procedural generation of a special ruins type strewn throughout the Starbound universe. The user name is incorporated into the procedural algorithm as a seed. Their name would uniquely affect the visual appearance, e.g. color, material, etc. and perhaps basic geometry of the ruins. There would also be a plaque or obelisk like relic with cryptic writing nearby. It would really be a cipher language of runic symbols that could be translated into English if you can figure out the cipher key… hint hint. These relics would state something like, here lies the last remnants of the ancient %user name% civilization, or tribe, etc. The twist and true easter egg in all this, is that within each ruin is a single piece to a very big puzzle, an easter egg within an easter egg. What this meta easter egg would be I couldn’t say, I have some cool ideas, but then it wouldn’t really be an easter egg. At mid to late game stages you could possibly build a highly advanced scanner/tricorder like device used at the planetoid surface level to help triangulate these easter egg ruins. There really would be three levels of easter eggs, the ruins themselves, the cryptic language, and the nested meta easter egg.

This would be an incredible way to allow the “DNA” of Starbound fans to be part of the game in a creative, clever, and meaningful way. Yet, the content would be universally available to all players, it would not affect game balance, and it can be entirely transparent to the overarching Starbound narrative.

A definite yes for a pre-order. Although I might NOT touch the beta. Don't want to spoil myself on the game before it's actual release. Also interested in bonus stuff, a soundtrack at least if nothing else.

Edit: IMO, You don't need to offer us early adopters a lower price point. Don't sell yourself short.

I would actually consider doing a Kickstarter, so that you can get not only all of us, but other people can go for it as well. It would also put everything on the table. A normal preorder would be nice, too.
