Well let's see what we have here:

Honestly... A beta is better off closed where you have people that actually know what they're doing and have experience with beta testing rather than just making it open to the public. You do this and you might as well just release the game when it's a beta, since that's essentially what you're doing to a degree. It'd be much more effective to have a closed beta. Release the game on the actual release date.

So my opinion? No. Don't make the beta ready that early, or you might as well just release the game. Closed beta all the way. Let people here test if you wish, but I wouldn't make the beta available to the public. A demo would be much better... just no beta.

These sound good to me, having the game cheaper for pre-order is definitely a bargain. More people are actually likely to pay for a pre-order for this.

Anything really works for me; assuming it's going on Steam, just whatever you feel like going with is fine with me.

No. No. NO. Don't do this at all. It's such a bullshit tactic and won't look good on you, and I wouldn't be surprised if peoples' respect for you dropped if you do this... no offense to any of you, just this is a new level of preorder bullcrap that's honestly detestable. It honestly just looks greedy on the developer's part, and while I know that you're not doing the game for free, you should also avoid this kind of garbage. Seriously, who's idea was it in the first place to say "If this many people preorder the game, THEN we'll put it in!" NO. Either put it in the full game, regardless of how many people have pre-ordered it, or don't put it in at all. It's not fair to the players to tease them with something and then not give it to them if you don't reach a certain number of preorders, because then they feel ripped off. And therefore pissed off.

Even if you don't do in-game items and do add the soundtrack or whatever, then it's still the same case- people feel ripped off if the preorder requirement isn't met.

Again. Either put whatever "bonuses" in the game or don't put them in at all. No exceptions.

    ----------------------

I know my words aren't the MOST positive. Just this is my advice. I'm all for a pre-order! ...Just don't fall into some of that pre-order BS that developers/publishers are doing now. Please.

Good luck on the rest of the game. I look forward to seeing it and hearing more about it!

Agreed with all this except the last part. Read again, they dont say that the game will get more feature if they reach a certain amount of total money, they only say that if a single person pay over a certain amount, they might (will if it's a yes) get additional "Not Ingame" bonuses like art booklet and stuff. Whole game come out no matter what. nothing more, nothing less. It's a little like Brutal Legend on steam, get the game alone at a certain price, get the soundtrack if you pay a little extra.
Tough steam might be a bad exemple now since they apparently started doing this sort of total amount of purchase equal better stuff for everyone kind of tease.

I'm pretty sure, Tiy mentioned that beta will be just sandbox mode game. No story missions. Probably also missing some content (like items etc).

Personally I think beta access is good idea. There is some people think that is bad idea - but they don;t need to play it. I'm sure community maight help a lot with finding bugs and suggesting changes in game. :)

Yes, I'll preorder in an instant. I'd like to see some sort of cosmetic item only available to those who preorder, like a cape or something like that would be really nice.

I have been on these forums since 3 days after playstarbound went up. I have had a $20 sitting in my wallet since that day. Sign. Me. Up.
I only have one question. Will you make it so that we can gift these pre-orders to others? It'd be nice to drop some of these on friends who I know were looking forward to the game. 8 D

Seriously, WHY do people find it necessary to quote a post that has nothing to do with them just so they can rant about someone else's conduct or forum etiquette?? There's absolutely no reason for that. You should just be quoting specific lines if it's relevant to whatever you have to say. If someone's forum etiquette bothers you, you should point it out in a nicer manner or risk looking like a dick.

Alright, enough of the mimicking your post. Long story short, if you have a problem with the way I do something, handle it in a more mature manner. I did what I did for specific reasons. Perhaps my choice to quote the entire original post was not the most justifiable even when taking those reasons into consideration, but I missed the part where you were the forum police.

(yes, I realize the content of this post could quite easily be considered hypocritical, but I did it specifically this way in hopes of showing just how ridiculous it seems when someone does it.)

A pre-order would be advisable not only to satisfy my anticipation but to mostly help you fine people keep development stable.
