I would Loooooove a pre-order. Especially if it helps yall out. And I think a neat pre-order only thing would be a special gravitational velocity distortion manipulation device. (tile layer) Or maybe some special boots. O.O I like boots. >.>

I think you should make use of the Humble Store, as I trust their service (second to Steam).

The "2013" timeframe sounds good to me, maybe it will be sooner once you open up pre-orders

Ok, Another pre-order candidate just adding his voice.

• Paypal - Please do
• Humble - If you like
• 2 and 4 packs - definitely please, my bank calls if I make identical purchase one after the other thinking it's a duplicate and I'll need a few copies of the game. Could be annoying otherwise, for myself and possibly others.

As for the extras for preordering:

• Only cosmetic stuff in-game, like vanity items. Maybe a glowing pre-order top hat to brag with.
• In-game Decals/posters for our space station or shuttle.
• Forum account pictures could get that corner glowy thing to make us feel special here.
• Naming a star, not sure how many will be generated but if there's a limit then how about the first 500 pre-orders sort of thing.
• Signed random concept art for the deluxe orders (you're going to throw those sketches away anyhow...)

Other thoughts: Beta's are known to contain bugs or be lacking in certain areas, that's why they're in beta. I'd say 99% of the people posting here wouldn't care less if there were large chunks missing so long as they could try it out (oh, and support you guys of course). At this point if I was you I wouldn't be afraid of releasing a relatively stable beta, bugs and all. From all my reading the community is champing at the bit to sink their teeth into this and the pre-order beta is just the thing. Most of the people here are quite helpful and this would really give you good stress test stats.

 

A soundtrack id love a soundtrack
And id preorder it for sure!
Or maybe your name in the random moster generatorpool or something.
Or just the satisfaction of helping create this game.

I think it is totaly viable! I think the soundtrack and artwork is awesome as tiers. Maybe a tier with music sheets of the music (if there is any guitar or piano involved)? I personally like the Humble store because it works fast and i have never had any problems with it.

I'm not sure if you guys are planning on doing this or not, but I'd like to suggest anyways some sort of date/countdown for the pre-order to be available. Perhaps something like, "You'll be able to pre-order Starbound on the day X of the Y month" or "Starbound will be availble to be pre-ordered within a week".

A lot of people are looking forward to it and giving out the date would grant them something to look forward to, as some users also want to immediately order the game when it becomes available. This way, they will know when so is to happen. Of course such date would only be granted when you guys know it.

 

I completely support the Idea and will definitely be purchasing this multiple times. The discount is a nice gesture but not really needed imo, you could do a discount on a package though say if you offer a 4 pack or something.

 

Would buy instantly when it came out.I Love having preorders of games because they give the game that extra support.

I will buy this game for sure. Early beta access with preorder would be very much appreciated, even if there is no discount... this is going to be definitely worth its cost many times over and I can't wait to play it.

Preorders..... Oh god no It will cause more harm than good. Don't do this. Thats my opinion on the subject.
