I would definitely pre-order, and packs sound like a great idea.

Another thing that I enjoy as a higher tier on Kickstarters is access to the alpha.

    IonIon Star Wrangler

Absolutely sublime idea. I'd pre-order it in a heartbeat. As far as tiers of 'donations'...

One thing that I'd like is a hoodie with the Starbound logo. Or hats. Everybody loves hats.

I am all for a preorder. I am just dying to even play a beta of Starbound! I just can't wait for the game to be released! 500% you should absolutely do a preorder!

I would wholeheartedly support a pre-order model. Extra funding while the game is in a beta phase ultimately improves the final product, it's a win for both customer and developer.

However, I'm not a fan of micro-transactions. I believe it shapes the development of the game in a very negative way, I've yet to see micro-transactions in games handled well.

I thought the humble bundle was a fantastic idea. If you guys can get in on that, I'd recommend it!

If pre-order tiers are used, I agree that things such as sound tracks, art books, etc. should be the rewards. I'm glad that you guys appear to be in the mindset that pre-order tiers should not give you an in-game advantage, as this delves into the mindset of micro-transactions and 'pay to win' models. I'm not particularly phased if pre-order tier rewards include cosmetic items, SUCH AS clothes, NOT building blocks, but I think this should be handled delicately.

We're behind you all the way dev team, and we want to support you in any way we can.

Well, a long story short... I need to buy Eight copies. Don't ask why a plant is germinatingly excited to that point, please don't judge based on how my foliage is sparkling with inherent need... and stop staring at my stems, I know they're glowing with anticipation. All I can say is...

    Sell Me Starbound Please!

always liked the idea of 4-packs in steam - and as I plan to play this one with my friends maybe I would definitly buy that. Is this something worth considering (path of exile did it in a similar way) - lets say - "buy the gold pack, get 3 keys to give to your friends)

I may just be a random new user who signed up here, but I loved your work on Terraria, this game looks absolutely wonderful on so many levels, and I'd be more than happy to preorder this fantastic work of you and your team!

This is very cool, but what about pay services? I'm living in Russian (^_^) and prefer pay to game via WebMoney (in Steam or in Origin) and question is: will be WebMoney support?

Dear Tiy: I won't lie; I'm all in for a chance to get games cheaper, especially with the currency differences. But truth be said, even if there's no discount, I'll still buy a copy for myself and to show my support (however minimal). If it helps your team to focus on completing the game itself, then it is a worthwhile cause. That, and I can't wait to get my hands on the release build of the game.

As for the time frame, perhaps when you have started the pre-orders and start taking in beta testers, you can give a clearer estimate rather than the whole year's length for any upcoming bug fixes and any final changes during beta. Maybe an 'End of Q2/Q3' or at worst 'mid/end of Q4' with the appropriate justification to your supporters would help.

Payment methods: I support steam, pay pal, or humble store, or any means that is secure and provided internationally.

    Tier rewards:
Personally I see no problems including any in-game items in the store as long as it doesn't give you an unfair advantage over players who choose not to pre-order. You guys could give players a cosmetic item with minimal or no stats, which is also obtainable by all players a bit later in the game as a secret item/Easter egg, with perhaps a unique description for the pre-order item. None would be the wiser and only those who pre-ordered would know (unless they choose to show it off and even then it's just a feel good item). Even a pea shooter/melee weapon comparable or barely stronger than the race starter weapon would also be fine.

I guess it depends on what you're aiming to give your pre-order customers, for them to contribute how they wish with a kick-starter tier rewards or every with that one purchase option only, in which you'll probably disregard everything below. The discount lasts for the duration of the pre-order, and on release keep/reduce the discounts on 4 packs & above, unless you're feeling extra generous.

1 man show + pre-order stuff (wallpaper, name in credits, in-game item (mentioned above))
Party of two: 2 x 1 man show, slightly more discounted
Foursome fun: 4 x 1 man show, discounted a little more
Recruitment plan: 5 - X amount of copies of the 1 man show, with corresponding discount or multiple foursome packs
Enthusiast level: Any of the four, with additional rewards ( digital artbook & lore book, soundtrack, name a star, any physical items, etc ) & minimal discount
Extra enthusiast level: Those who love the game too much and capable of supporting an even greater amount of money - create an event/quest, be an npc, design a unique item/weapon/creature/craftable/Easter egg/dungeon/space ship designs/planet types/logos/vehicle or mech(?) or contribute to the post-release update, any physical item(s)
(Scales with the amount of contribution/tier levels)

  19. BlackRainbow

    BlackRainbow Aquatic Astronaut

Ï'm pre-ordering TWO copies as soon as I'm allowed to.
    My concerns are:
    - The game is enough hyped as it is... I dont' think it's necessary to offer it at a lower price. Unless the final price is 20€ of course. If you're thinking 14€99, then a 1€ discount would be ok.
    - The humble indie store seems like a good idea as long as they don't take a huge chunk of your profits... the only thing I care about is being able to pay via paypal.
    - I don't care about the extra tiers, I'd probably end up giving you more just to pay full price :)
    - 2013 is pretty large but "safe". That won't stop me from pre-ordering.

I'm glad there won't be any in-game special content. I didn't back Delver's Drop because of their rewards. I could only afford the first special item pack and I'd end up with like "a sixth" of a special kickstarter edition... So, it's either I have all of them or none of them (plus it was already funded). I might buy it once it's on steam.

Still, I wouldn't mind a unique name badge like "early supporter"... it isn't an item, it isn't "cosmetic", it isn't a gameplay element... it's just a way to tell the others that we helped you in the beginning!
