Doesn't this mean people could get their game through the Direct Download and then just give away their steam key? How would you feel about that?

I would suggest allowing people to buy 2packs, 4packs/5packs, and maybe even 10packs of the game, to share with their friends and family! Also ie would be cool to see a "Limited/Collectors/Special Edition" of the game (whatever you guys decide to call it) available to purchase in order to help the game out more! Also I would love both a soundtrack, in .mp3 format or on a CD, and an artbooklet, preferably hardcover!

I use Steam, and I've heard of the Humble Store, but never used it. The rest I've never heard of, but I'm sure there are tons of people out there who would prefer them!

Can't wait for the pre-order to be available! I'll be holding my breath!

- There is Steam Early Access feauture now avaiable, where you can give access to Beta version of the game right away;
- Two- or Four-pack of the game would be great

Absolutely. If it means I can get the game a little cheaper and help let Bartwe and Omni focus more on working on Starbound, then I feel this is a win-win for everyone.

Chalk me up as another person registering for the sole purpose of supporting the pre-order idea.
You could've had my money a year ago, on a couple screenshots and a prayer. Now? Heck, I would read my credit card to you.

 

This idea would be the best idea, i would be glad to spend the money to help the development team out as well would not mind helping the progress of the game

I do kinda worry that if you take preorders then the game becomes much more reality, and release dates are going to matter more. I have been patient with the release of Starbound because I like that the game will have a lot of time to be actually finished. Preorders mean that I will have already paid money for it and therefore I wouldn't want to wait too much longer, especially after numerous horrors some people have gone through with preorders turning them into suckers - not that I'd ever believe you would do such a thing.

Setting the time at "sometime in 2013" isn't bad, and I wouldn't pull my hair if it becomes "early 2014", but I would split hairs if I had paid money for it.

That said, I would totally pay money for it. Right now. Not because I want it earlier, but because if it really has become a financially unstable issue among some people, I want to help them. I don't want a promise of "we'll do it faster", I want a promise of "we'll do it" and hope you won't start rushing it or die trying. Bonuses be damned.
